The Bar Council of India (BCI) has today extended the deadline to apply for the all-India bar exam from end of September to 31 October 2010 to accommodate students facing delays in enrolment.
The BCI published the following statement by chairman Gopal Subramanium on its website today: “In light of the various requests and queries received from law students across India, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has decided that the registration period for the AIBE is hereby extended till October 31, 2010. This will allow law students who are facing delays on account of release of certificates from law schools or awaiting enrolment at a State Bar Council (‘SBC’), greater time to register for the AIBE.”
Subramanium’s statement noted that state bar councils across India were “being informed of this decision and will also be kept completely updated on the final number of advocates undertaking the AIBE, 2010 as well as the results of the same, so that they can check the same against their records of enrolment and ensure that advocates who do not clear the AIBE are not allowed to practice law in India”.
He added that a new automated enrolment form was also now available through the BCI website, as reported by Legally India yesterday and that he looked forward to students’ “continued co-operation”.
The all India bar exam is currently being challenged by more than 10 writ petitions, which are due to be heard by the Supreme Court on 20 October. The bar exam is scheduled to take place on 5 December 2010.

Our future is not a hunting ground for your (r)eformatory adventures. If, at all, this exam is warranted, let some University conduct this, once in July and then in November each year. When you are neither mentally nor logistically prepared to conduct the Bar exam, it is out rightly unfair to conduct the exam at all (even otherwise, this exam, on merits, wouldn’t survive judicial touchstone, once heard). You have been my hero since I planned to take up litigation as my profession, but now.....? it is goodtime to rethink......
Even today I don't know that my application is accepted or rejected because I received confirmation email before a week stated that
"This is to inform you that your application form for the All India Bar Examination-2010 (AIBE-2010), scheduled to be held on December 5, 2010 has been received by the Directorate of Legal Education, Bar Council of India.
Please note that this e-mail merely confirms the receipt of the application from and does not purport to represent/ warrant that the form is complete. The Directorate of Legal Education, BCI will get back to you if there are any further questions/ concerns."
So dear friends there is no chance for exam on Dec. 5 at all It will be in Jan or Feb & result in month of March. If they can't say that your application form is accepted or rejected after 40 days than How they will send materials to the students who will register themselves on 30 oct ?? & take exam on Dec 5??
What a chairperson of bar council who can't think about professional students future.
"What a luck for 2009-2010 academic year students who registered as advocate but cannot work as advocate" for a whole year.
They are here to earn money not to distribute materials which will reduce to their profit.

At least the mock test papers should be published for all in Bar Council website.
Unless it will be an affair to make way for a predefined seleected few.
