Chennai bar exam postponed again, date TBC

The All India Bar Exam (AIBE) in Chennai, which was originally slated for 6 March but postponed to 27 March due to local unrest, has again been postponed to an undecided future date due to Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections.

A statement on the Bar Council of India (BCI) website reads:

The All India Bar Examination (“AIBE”) in Chennai that was to be held on March 27, 2011 now stands postponed to a later date. The BCI has been approached, and requested, by the State Government to postpone the AIBE in Chennai in light of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections that are to take place shortly.

The BCI is co-ordinating with the State Government of Tamil Nadu to fix a revised date and will communicate the same to candidates shortly. Revised admit cards along with the venue details etc. will be made available to all candidates and adequate notice of the same will be available to all candidates.

The BCI apologises for the inconvenience caused to candidates on the above account. Any candidate who requires assistance is requested to contact the BCI (through email or over the AIBE helpline) immediately.

Not only did your Madras protesting the exam not make a point of difference to anyone's opinion on the exam, it landed Madrasis in more soup than before! lol

now what happens to the rest of india. do we have to wait till the tamilnadu exam is over to get the proposed certificate of practice from the bci.....pls clarify?

Mr. Sai....u can conti with ur practice.....as and when bci will be in a position to send the certificate it will be send u/all. plz refer the FAQ's in BCI website.

Hi Kian, can you pls delete the comment no.7.. What ever has happened is between the state govt and bci? Why you bringing in the whole tamilians? And am shocked that the admins have allowed the comment no.7..

Dear Friends,

AIBE is completed and the restults are also declared except Madras.

At the same time I request the BCI and precisely GS to conduct the same exam to other lawyers who are in practice prior to 2009 batch. How far they will pass the exam, I am sure not even 50% will pass the exam. It is very important to conduct the exam. There are somany lawyers who doesn't anything except cheating clients and making money.

Sincerely I request the BCI and GS once again to think seriously to conduct the exam.

i agree with you view #9 the bar exam must be from retrospective effect and bar council must introduce english in court to eiminate kanoon ke dalal

i totally agree with #9 a pass in aibe should be made mandatory to all practicing advocate and the medium of exam should only be English. lets then see how well they all fare in the exam............

I called up BCI to get info about the certificate for all those who've passed. I was told they'll start despatching it only once they're done with the Chennai exam. This was before the said exam got postponed again. Maybe they should just start despatching the certificates instead of waiting for the Chennai exam.

BCI told me that they will send the certificates by the end of april.
