After rebuke, Guj HC manages to secure GNLU director Bimal Patel presence

Patel, summoned, turned up to Gujarat high court today

GNLU Gandhinagar director Bimal Patel and registrar Dr Thomas Mathew appeared before the Gujarat high court today to comply with its 19 February order, following Patel’s non-compliance with two previous orders of the high court.

As we had reported yesterday, the high court had chastised Patel in its order that “no one is above the law” and had asked him to appear in person before it at 11am today in the writ brought by GNLU’s accounts officer Manoj Patel, against his allegedly improper termination.

The reason for the order of personal appearance was that Patel has asked the accounts officer to proceed on immediate leave with pay despite orders from the high court that he should allow the accounts officer to continue in his employment while the writ was pending.

According to a source present in court today, Patel and the registrar appeared for a few minutes today and informed the court that they had allowed the accounts officer to continue in his employment as directed by the high court.

The case would next be heard on 7 March.

I condemn constant non-stop negative coverage of GNLU and Prof Bimal Patel by this website. If you want negative attitude then many problems are in Harvard and Yale also.

This present matter is minor internal matter. At least try and do criticism of important thing like placement, moot court, campus infrastructure or faculty achievement but that you cannot do because under leadership of Prof Patel GNLU is playing a leading role in all this.

You will also not mention that Prof Patel is regarded as eminent jurist and is only VC among the NLUs with PhD from a top foreign university. Even Prof Madhava Menon or Prof Ranbir Singh do not have this achievement. Only Prof Upendra Baxi and Prof Mohan Gopal have got it.

If a highly qualified non law graduate director and registrar of a national law university cannot effectively comply with court directions, then how can you blame legallyindia for covering it. A lot of GNLU graduates are practicing in the High Court and so I wonder why the University hire external lawyers instead of an alumni.

Your friendly neighborhood localitie warns you not to comment using university WiFi on this website. BimPatel and his trolls have apparently ordered
the generals at ICT to keep a close watch on traffic to this site from cyberroam IDs.

This is reliably learnt from a great friend in the administration.

I wonder why the kids are so scared these days. In our times, BimPa did not have the spherical things which every man has to enter into the hostel blocks, i remember when he once tried to raid the hostel blocks, students blocked his exit and he had to talk his way out of the block. On the way back students abused him owing to the violation of privacy which he had done. Present students must take things into their own hands and retaliate every time the non law graduate head of the low university tries anything which is in violation of their rights. Monitoring access of a wesite like Legallyindia from where students get so much information and help in keeping themselves updated with the law as well as the legal fraternity is just too much. Come On Students, help yourself, no one else will come to help you, you all are expected to be the bright young minds who will shape the future. Right now, i see the brightness fading.

Mr bimal patel, yes, "mr", not professor or dr.

This guy was the registrar of a library before fate brought him to GNLU. I have to give him one thing, he always has luck on his side.

Thomas Mathew used to be a fair academician. But greed and lust for power have made him mr bimal Patel's manfriday.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This adage has never been more appropriate than in the case of patel and Mathew.

These two have destroyed the careers of innumerable students and teachers. Anyone who doesn't fall in line, must face the axe.

As a student, I had great respect for mr patel and thomas Mathew bht their conduct, which over and above being illegal and arrogant, is downright inhumane and insensitive, has led me to lose all respect for them.

And as far as the first comment in this thread goes, let's not get into how mr bimal patel got his phd. That's one can of worms you wouldnt want to open.

"Thomas Mathew used to be a fair academician."

Really? Then explain this:

1. His only publication is in the Canadian Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences
https://www.gnlu.ac.in/faculty-detail.php?staffId=572.

2. This journal features in a list of fraudulent and predatory journals:

If they were right why did director and registrar recant on their decision and let the accounts officer rejoin? Meaning thereby that these two thugs were wrong. They do these illegal things so casually. They are no different than nirav modi who ran away with PNb funds. Oh....and please...someone start talking about all the allegations against bimal Patel's in relation to [...]
Kian and legally india team please investigate the [...] campus construction. That's the taxpayer's money [...].

Thomas. [...] Most GNLU students wouldnt acknowledge you if they see you after graduation. That speaks volumes about the impression you carry in the students' hearts and minds.

Some GNLU people here have been attacking Kian saying that he is biased against GNLU. I don't think this is true. If criticism of a VC/administration means Kian hates a college, then he has also been critical of the NUJS VC. Legally India was even partly responsible for the removal of the old NALSAR VC after leaking an audit report.

The larger point here is that most NLUs suffer from incompetent and corrupt administration. They are insecure and resentful of the students they teach, so much so that it leads to NLU alumni deliberate not being hired. To avoid scrutiny, they only hire LLM and PhD alumni of NLUs (who are usually of very poor quality) instead of BALLB alumni. They then go around telling their governing body that they are "actively recruiting alumni". In fact, this is why so many good NLU alumni are flooding Jindal, despite weak students and a horrible location in Haryana.

Instead of getting paranoid about the reputation of whichever NLU we are from, let us unite and put pressure for an overhaul of NLU administration.

Another story about every VC of every Indian law institute.

Under-qualified, poor language skills, lack of any academic achievement, always insecure and (in some cases) morally bankrupt as well.

Imagine someone as useless as Bimal Patel or SS Singh (of NLIU) or that nose digging Bhat from NUJS trying to present a paper at a conference and making a complete fool of themselves!!

All the VCs of the NLUs are completely useless and biggest chamchas, completely devoid of integrity of any sort....academics se koi rishta-naata hai hi nahi in jaahilon ka....just by barking in the media (both print & TV) they think that are big philosophers....the biggest & most suitable example is Mustafa (students lovingly call him Sarkar!!).....for proof just visit the ANH (aap nalsarite hain) page in face book to have a glimpse of his scholastic abilities reflected in the criminal law paper set by him....aur kuchh kehne ki zaroorat nahi hai.....if this is the real plight of NALSAR then the plight of other NLUs can be easily extrapolated....

Kian please start a concerted movement to unite NLU students and reform NLU administration The top concerns are:

1. Bad faculty and corruption/nepotism in hiring faculty
2. Corrupt and insensitive administration (embezzlement of funds, red tape, moral policing etc)
3. Lack of alumni representation in governing body (unlike IIMs)
4. Lack of support to student initiatives and ideas

Legally India is crossing limits by doing such stories and allowing comments so cheap. Here we have such learned jurist of international reputation return to India to give selfless service to his motherland and is this how to repay him? A person has PhD from one of the highest rank university of Europe and instead of praising people are saying it is fake PhD? What proof do you want? You complain faculty is not good and when the top international law jurist of the country is the VC you start protest against him?Such small minded and jealous people is why Indian education system is such bad shape and there is "brain drain".
