HNLU Raipur VC Prof Sukh Pal Singh term extended till 2020 by chancellor without search committee

HNLU Raipur vice chancellor (VC) Prof Sukh Pal Singh’s term as VC was renewed until 2020 late last year.

Singh confirmed to Legally India that after his first five-year term as VC came to an end on 31 December 2014, instead of forming a search committee for a new VC, former HNLU chancellor acting chief Justice Navin Singh extended his term for another five years effective 1 January 2015.

Singh said that under the HNLU Act 2003 the law school’s chancellor was empowered to renew a VC’s term once.

Justice Navin Sinha yesterday took oath as the chief justice of Chhattisgarh high court.

NLU Delhi VC Prof Ranbir Singh, whose term was renewed in 2013, is the other NLU VC officiating in his second term as law school head.

I seriously disagree with what HNLU is saying, Comeon our VC has done a lot of things for the University and has brought many glories as well.

Someone should file a PIL. I request LI to follow up. You people just do one story (be it any law school) and then don't do a single follow up story. In contrast there have been 200 reports on AMSS partner hires. Form the perspective of the country, which is more important?

Please tell us Prachi!

Message for you!

Why don't you file a PIL yourself. Why should Prachi follow up. LI reports news that they have been informed about. This is a news website not investigation website. LI does a story when they have been informed something or have been acquainted about something. They will do a follow up story if there are any new developments they are informed about. What is more important from the perspective of the country is debatable. I for example would feel Amarchand is the largest law firm in India and deserves the coverage. What is HNLU? Do not dump your selfish motives by terming it as an "importance to the country"! Really, would the country be bothered about a law university whose students cannot stand against the admin and keep pestering LegallyIndia to do the same? Why doesn't your college form a committee to investigate. Why don't the students file a PIL? I am sure Prachi or LI will report the story if you file a PIL and provide her the necessary details.

Talking about law universities, I think LI should write a story on Mumbai NLU. There are quite a few developments there. Probably have a word with TISS. I just noticed B&B have an article on it.

I heard HNLU has been working without a permanent registrar from last 10 years. I wonder why...

Apart from Ranbir Singh at NLU Delhi, at least four other NLU VC's are currently serving in their second term, i.e. A. Lakshminath at CNLU Patna, S.S. Singh at NLIU Bhopal, R. Venkata Rao at NLSIU Bangalore and Bimal Patel at GNLU Gandhinagar.

Prachi,
I just wonder why you are such a sucker for kudos to Sukh Pal Singh news and suppress material critical comments which would affect him and not be just a blind man's rant. Justice Garg was acting CJ of Chattisgarh around 15 years back and could never have been Chancellor of HNLU as it was formed only in 2003.Further I have heard the max age for VC'S post there is 65, which barrier your favourite aspirant has breached, and attempts to raise have not been successful (there even being allegations of unethical conduct in trying to get it done).
Has the news item been posted so that other aspirants abandon the race ? Is it an indication that the search committee has been formed or is about to be formed ? It is certainly a bit odd that someone who wants to be in limelight would forsake it for three months.

If this happens at our place, we are going to quit en mass! And many teachers would, too! How exactly the ECs of NLUs keep renewing the terms of VCs without doing basic investigation as to how the students and the faculty feel about him is beyond me!
