ILS Pune student ends life after failing exams and evaluation criticism

ILS Pune first year student Saumitra Dhoble, aged 19, allegedly committed suicide on Saturday after declaration of exam results in which he failed two papers.

His body was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan in his room at his residence by his father, during vacations from the law school, reported the Indian Express.

Several students of the law school later complained to the principal Vaijyanti Joshi about the problem of repeated faulty evaluation of exam papers at Pune University.

The University of Pune will never change. It's torture for students to clear Uni of Pune exams with the worst evaluators correcting your papers. The best and most intelligent students fail or just about manage to pass and the Revaluation system is the biggest money making scheme that there is amongst all law colleges in India! Rs. 350-400 per subject that you want to be revaluated and most times your marks don't get revaluated! They started by taking our money.. and now students' lives!!

Saumitra apparently got five marks in English and 0 in history. This is shocking and cannot be true. Can someone please approach the SHRC. The irresponsible teachers/management should face the music.

"the problem of repeated faulty evaluation of exam papers at 'the college'....".....problem is not with the College but with Pune University...please correct the sentence....

This is very sad incident. As we know that this problem of evaluation system is needed to be address but at the same time we also need to understand that what had happend with the mindset of the students & parents ? such a extream step ? solutions needed to be find out before we get same kind of other news..

Faulty evaluation or not, there are bigger problems in the world that people face. Students should not, no matter what, resort to the unthinkable.

The boy is all of 19 years of age. And given the hostel system, he wouldn't have enjoyed the guidance his family could have offered otherwise.
Please, don't blame him. The world is a cruel place and more often than not, we are left to learn the truth the hard way.


Rest in peace, dear Saumitra. Even the most kind-hearted people on earth can only imagine what you must have gone through.

Note that it is University of Pune that conducts the exams & evaluates the answer papers.

Mumbai University is worse!!
Their whole Revaluation process takes 10months minimum. 4 months for photocopy & 6 months for re-checking. Many have suffered wherein they used to fail & then appear for ATKT exam & after that the revaluation result would be declared.

i always used to think legally India is TOI of law school. But today you have breached that limit as well. how can you publish the name of student who committed suicide? Please have some journalistic ethics and remove his name.

i remeber how uop checked our 3rd year's paper last time .i mean every one from bbmc bba students with finance specialization got zero and after a debate and complain everyone got 60
