Nalsar Hyderabad’s class of 74 LLB students graduating this year have secured 52 jobs with domestic and foreign law firms, in house, Big Four consulting and other organizations.

Khaitan & Co and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas were the largest recruiters from the batch.

All of the 52 students who subscribed to the law school’s campus recruitment process secured jobs, with 30 being absorbed by domestic law firms, 12 going in house, three hired by foreign law firms, two each by Big Four consulting and an entrance test preparation company and one each a legal start up and a research organization.

The recruitment coordination committee (RCC) said in a statement: “Building on our successful Day Zero conducted on the 18th and 19th April, 2014, we are pleased to announce that we have reached the 100% mark for placements for the graduating class of 2015.”

The placement season continued throughout the academic year culminating in May, 2015 when the final subscribers were placed. We saw a wide variety of organisations recruit from NALSAR while the choices of students have continued to diversify. We were pleased to welcome some entities for the first time and built on our time-honoured relationships with the others.

Whereas the upbeat market did help in the recruitment process, the lack of PSUs coming to law school campuses did mean we had to approach new organisations. This also resulted in a few candidates, who had originally subscribed to the RCC, dropping out of the RCC process to take the CLAT LLM exam which is the qualifier for such positions with PSUs which were earlier regular recruiters on campus.

The students who opted not to sit for placements have received LLM offers from leading foreign universities like Harvard, Oxford, SOAS, LSE apart from the one Rhodes Scholar. Some have opted to go in for litigation while others are taking UPSC, Judicial Services exams, Judicial Clerkships with one opting for entrepreneurship.

Last year at Nalsar, 71 students out of 78 subscribed to the RCC, with all of 71 getting jobs.

Nalsar: Domestic Law firms

25 out of 32 Nalsar students joining Indian law firms will join the Big Seven firms of AZB & Partners, the split halves of former Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan, Trilegal and Luthra & Luthra.

One student also took a position at Cyril Amarchand’s volume transactional support group (TSG) unit.

Cyril Amarchand hired 8, including the TSG position, while Shardul Amarchand hired 2.

Alongside Cyril Amarchand, Khaitan & Co was the biggest recruiter with 7, followed by Luthra with 4 new hires.

Foreign Law firms

Allen & Overy recruited two students and Herbert Smith Freehills recruited one.

In house

Traditionally heavy Nalsar recruiter Infosys was the biggest in house recruiter this year too, taking the total Nalsar in-house tally to 11 with ICICI and National Stock Exchange of India.

Other

Big Four consulting firm Ernst & Young took two students while the remaining joined entrance test venture CL Educate, a legal assistance group, and a research organisation.

RCC thanks ‘new academic model’

The RCC, consisting of Anandita Thass, Anjali Rawat, Archit Bhatnagar, Nishant Prasad, Preethi Correa, Rohan Muralidharan Iyer, Sandipan De, Tanay Agarwal and Yashashree Mahajan, wrote in a statement:

We would proudly point out that the NALSAR 2015 Class received the highest number of Day Zero offers among all the law schools and is the first to report the 100% mark.
