what is the procedure for appearing for second time in AIBE exam?

dear BCI don't be in so hurry, okay? first complete your first assignment i.e. AIBE held on 6th march..send the certificates of practice to all successful candidates of 1st AIBE with immediate effect & relieve them...then only think about another AIBE..

1. is this only for those who failed the first exam or is it also for those who pass out this year?

2. Does one need to clear the bar exam to work as an associate at a law firm?

The pass percentage in AIBE throws light into the grave need for rethinking in legal education. The dismal results in Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh, also points a finger to earlier BCI/Governmental Policy of allowing powerful persons to start law colleges, without any quality check. On the other hand even in Kerala, which has only one private sector institute,out of 525 appearances only 436 graduates passed AIBE, which shows that nearly 89 law graduates, who were considered good for passing LLB would not pass a basic professional test like AIBE. While it is not known whether all the candidates who took AIBE from Kerala have passed out from Law Colleges in Kerala, I believe that one of the reasons for this quality erosion is the university system in Kerala as well as in other states, which enables the politician academics to dominate the legal education scenario and force the law teachers to give marks to undesevering students. This result also throws light to the need for academic autonomy(not in the way as suggested by Madhava Menon Committee-which is nothing but subjecting teachers to academic fiefdom)without losing the socio economic outlook of the law colleges.

it would be better that bci first gives all the advocates who passed the aibe exam their certificates first and then plan for the next exam.

i agree with 1, 3, 7. by not providing us with the deserved certificate would make us only look like a failure on getting the same in par with the ones who failed to clear in the 1st instance.

btw, will this certificate carry any weightage?

in the enrollment form there was a requirement of attestation by two advocates having experience of over 10 years. i find this absurd. my friend knows no advocates with that kind of experience and poor lady is still wondering what to do. is there any way to go about? she could appear for the 1st aibe.......now even 2nd aibe looks doubtful.

@ 9 and 10, she can get the signatures by paying 100 bucks to some old timer ... its not that difficult and i know of many ppl who have done this .... give it a shot !

#6 makes such a valid point.

Its not the certificates or scores that matter right now. The whole purpose of the AIBE was to improve the standard of legal education in India. If the BCI had any semblance of integrity, they'd look at the results objectively to identify lacunae in the education system such as the one pointed out by #6.

Prof. V.B. Coutinho need only look at some of the colleges he has previously served at to find out where exactly we go wrong in helping aspiring advocates get the foundation they deserve.

The AIBE first exam is over, before conducting the second exam please send us the certificates. please take some precautionary measures while sending the certificates to the passed candidates, otherwise the certificates may be damaged in the mail (lot of chances are there for damage).

Second thing, do we have to inform the SBC where we took BC membership as advocate or BCI will take care?

BCI is not taking calls when called to the helpline nos. Neither they are replying to e-mails when i want to know whether they will send us the practice certificates. Plz inquire into this indifference of BCI.

Sorry for the delay - I don't have any further information at present either on the certificates. Are the certificates essential, however, in the short term? I understand that no one really asked for certificates when entering courts anyway, right?

On the next exam date, as the article points out it is tentative for now, so I don't think the BCI will have started sending out hall passes yet.

I imagine the process will be fairly similar to the last exams, with sign-ups and the like being announced. When there are announcements we will of course cover them here.

you are right kian. neither the AIBE nor the certificate was necessary for exercising practice rights after getting SBC enrollment duly.it was not creating any bar to practice per se even if I didn't appear in the AIBE. but the thing is that the local bar associations(like high court & district bar) are not giving membership without certificates.moreover if we get the certificate it would be like a testimonial for appearing in the first ever AIBE in the history of india.

I mean to say you supported the BCI move and tried to establish many points regarding AIBE in this site through your posts and exam loyalists.

Respectfully, you seem to be misunderstanding something.

Please point out any occasions when we have "tried to establish many points regarding AIBE" through posts or "exam loyalists".

What we have done is publish both criticisms of the way the AIBE was handled, support of the necessity for legal reform in general, arguments for and against, the arguments by the BCI's chairman for holding the exam early (which we expressly questioned in several interviews and editorial commentaries - and in any case the exam was postponed twice. We also disseminated general information from the BCI and other sources on the status of the exam and court cases challenging it.

We were also involved in the launch of a bar exam prep crash course, which was well received and very successful. We were transparent about this involvement and it was done entirely independently from our editorial coverage.

The point I was making is: before the exam not too many people seemed to be too bothered about the certificates or 'right to practice' judging by comments here, some state BC opposition, and the low sign-ups in some states. I agree that the BCI should ideally send out the certificates as soon as possible but judging by how long it took for study materials, etc to arrive I wouldn't hold my breath.

And in effect, I would surmise that anyone who has passed the exam can validly practice even without having to produce a certificate, which is not a legal requirement, right?

Please do enlighten me on your thinking and general animosity when you get a chance though.

this exam is of no consequence at all ....... nobody is implementing the results .... all are practicing with all their rights, sbcs are not aware of what to do ....... so what purpose does it pose......?
