NLIU Bhopal has placed 25 of its 2017-graduating students on its Day Zero of recruitments held between 1 and 3 April 2016, with a mix of large law firms and two corporates.

On 12 April, Legally India had reported in Mint, based on Day Zero recruitment figures of eight law firms, that NLIU Bhopal had placed a total of 18 students (8 with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, 5 with Trilegal and 5 with Khaitan & Co).

In addition, the college’s placement committee has now released the remaining Day Zero results, which includes one accepted job offer from Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, two from ICICI, and four from Wipro.

The placement committee said in a statement:

The Day Zero of Recruitment for the 2017 batch has been a huge success for NLIU with a record 28 job offers from across top tier law firms and corporate houses, helping us better our own Day Zero record of 25 job offers achieved last year for the 2016 batch.

The phenomenal results of Day Zero can be primarily attributed to the academic and co-curricular endeavors of the students and robust internship program of the Placement Coordination Committee (PCC) which has helped the students acquire the necessary skillset.

With more than 50% of the placement registered candidates placed on Day Zero itself, the PCC is confident of maintaining the 100% placement record, achieved with the 2015 batch, for the current batch as well.

The Recruiter feedback we received after the day zero regarding the student quality has been very positive. Moreover with significant changes in the University’s Academic Curriculum to be implemented from the next academic session, we hope it would further facilitate the recruitment process of the university.

The Placement Coordination Committee (PCC) consists of placement coordinators Shaswat Shekhar, Srideepa Bhattacharya and Arindam Bhattacharjee, as well as members Shivani Kannojiya, Vaishali Vinod, Abhilasha Malpani, Sourabh Tirpude, Shivani Vij, Ambuj Swaroop, Vaibhavi Tadwalkar, Sachin Arora, Shivesh Tripathi, Milind Ghosh and Anand Sharma.

The total batch size graduating in 2017 is 89, with 49 students participating in the Day Zero activities.

A total of 28 jobs were offered to students, of which 25 were accepted.

Transparency wins

This is the first year that NLIU has proactively disclosed its Day Zero recruitments, in contrast to the placement committee’s policy in 2015 and 2015, as reported at the time.

Last year, at least 22 NLIU students had accepted jobs on Day Zero, according to research by Legally India.

One of the 2017 batch’s placement coordinators Shaswat Shekhar said on behalf of the committee that it was a change in policy made by the students this year, which was supported by the administration. “We thought it would be better in the interest of students that we’d release data on a real time basis,” he said.

He added that they had intended to release Day Zero results in April but that holidays had got in the way.

NUJS Kolkata’s 2017 recruitment committee had this year refused to disclose Day Zero figures, after having confirmed a Day Zero record of 40 jobs in April 2015.

4. Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan: 1 accepted job offer (1 PPO).

5. ICICI: 2 accepted job offers (2 CPO).

6. Wipro: 4 accepted job offers (4 CPO).
