NLSIU starts new forensic 'cyber lab' with 30 computers (for its PGs)

NLSIU Bangalore has started a “cyber lab”, in part funded by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY), and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, which has 30 computers with “basic cyber forensic tools” to teach government officials to prosecute, police and adjudicate cyber crimes, reported The Hindu]. The report did not specify whether the lab would be accessible to students other than those on the school’s new-ish postgraduate diploma in cyber forensics and cyber law, by which it is run.

Can private parties get informal analysis done from the lab? Like handwriting, DNA, etc.?

This seems to be a cyber forensic lab to be used for investigation of cyber crimes. I don't think handwriting or DNA analysis will be done here!!

currently the lab is intended to be utilised only for academic purposes rather than analysis of evidences by private parties. though this will be taken up in due course

RML planned to start the same since its initiation. BCI gave 50 Lakh for the same also and its still in progress.. UP govt works at cycle pace or elephant pace..

I will personally ensure this lab is utilised to full potential and the drops of knowledge from it reach the corner of all classrooms. I guarantee from next trimester no good student will be turned away from forensic labs for want of evidence and nobody will be vandalised. If not I will change my name to Mohungopal.
