NLU Delhi former registrar and Prof GS Bajpai, who had retired in January 2021 will take over as vice-chancellor (VC) of RGNUL Patiala this Friday (21 May), according to Bar & Bench.

He told Bar & Bench:

RGNUL is already a fast-growing institution. My priority is too see that it is made into a research intensive institution, as my forte is research.

I will also aim to achieve excellence in faculty development and student initiatives.

Everything aside, he is an able administrator. He was also easily accessible during my time at NLUD. I expect his tenure at RGNUL to be well received. Happy for you, Sir!

Will he finally get an undergraduate degree in law during this tenure?

Not you talking about someone with a post doctorate

What does that even mean in this context? He still doesn't have an LLB.

Was loved by NLUD, great administrator. He'll do wonders at RGNUL.

Wonder if he has the ability to attract foreign LLM talent as Assistant Profs into RGNUL? (And away from NLU-D/NLS/Jindal)

Wonder whether he has the desire to do so. Not every VC does. MP Singhs and Ranvir Singhs are the exceptions among TLC products who can still appreciate how universities need to invest into young talent in order to grow.

Who else applied? Why such bad coverage of such a major story?

You and I did. But you tanked the interview, and I got the good stuff for you from Manali without having to go to Udta Punjab.

Manali has no stuff bro, it's a tourist town for people with kids. You need to visit kasol for the stuff, which is on the way to manali

Good move and should improve RGNUL's rank.

A complete story should have been published like: who were the Members of the Search Committee? How many candidates were shortlisted for an interview? Who were they? Who were eventually included in the Panel of the probables for ticking of one name for VCship? Just telling that so and so is appointed as VC is not enough. So please provide additional information.

RGNUL has to target the NIRF top 5. It's possible.

But is it plausible

Brother you really haven't visited rgnul. It's a different world from those beyond it's gates and perhaps the only nlu which doesn't really care about rankings and all. the kids there are more concerned about trips to kasol and the good staff than the maddening rat race.

This was true when I was in the Uni. Do not know if this is the case even today.

It was true of a handful of students who made the most noise. Far greater number of students quietly go about interning and working. Look at the success of the student-led RSRR journal as an example.

I am sorry to say, but there has been a decline in discipline among RGNUL students in recent times. Even first year students of first semester have been seen to be smoking and drinking. Hopefully Covid will end it as students are at home and will not get spoilt in the first year,
