NUJS boycotts Outlook law school rankings, NLU-J butts back in

Good ol' rankings game continues to rankle
Good ol' rankings game continues to rankle
National magazine Outlook India has ranked four national law schools as India’s best law colleges followed by two private Pune schools but following a spat with the magazine last year, NUJS Kolkata declined to provide data and was not included in the list while NLU Jodhpur re-entered this year in fourth place.

Outlook, which commissioned research agency MDRA to carry out the research, ranked NLSIU Bangalore, Nalsar Hyderabad, NLIU Bhopal and NLU Jodhpur in the top four, followed by ILS Pune and Symbiosis Pune.

“Selection process” was again weighted the most heavily with 287 points, followed by infrastructure with 213 points. NLSIU achieved a lower score than Nalsar in the “selection process category”. Both colleges participate in the Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT), where NLSIU has been the first preference for two years running.

In infrastructure NLSIU scored the highest with 204, ahead of Nalsar on 199. NLIU Bhopal also outscored Nalsar with 203 points.

In placements Outlook ranked NLSIU with 153 points just before Nalsar, while NLIU Bhopal and NLU Jodhpur had almost the same score at around 137. In the online version of the magazine no detailed methodology was published about the law school rankings, although for engineering more information was given on its website.

Department of Law BHU Varanasi, GLC Mumbai, Amity Law School Delhi and GNLU Gandhinagar occupied places seven to 10.

In August 2010 NUJS professor Shamnad Basheer and two students wrote official letters of complaint to Outlook India and India Today questioning their methodologies and requesting clarification, such as Outlook’s choice to attribute greater weight to the selection process than to faculty, for example.

Outlook replied on 1 September 2010 with further information on its rating system, which the NUJS complainants described as “lackadaisical” in turn in their response.

Basheer told Legally India yesterday that NUJS therefore chose not to supply any figures to Outlook. Outlook stated in its table that “only institutes that submitted objective data on time have been ranked”.

NLU Jodhpur, which was in the top 10 in last year’s Outlook rankings but made seventh in 2009, made an entry this year at number four.

Rival rankings

In December 2010 Lawyers Update magazine compiled its own ranking, also using data from Legally India’s Mooting Premier League to rank colleges.

Now this is what I call rankings. as opposed to the insane and infantile "I am better" arguments keeping this forum abound. For the naysayers though: you just cannot denounce everything that comes out in the national magazine. The rankings are perfect and cannot be ascribed to any prejudice. The truth is, this is what it is. Well done outlook.
A side note: If NUJS had participated, which is to say permitted Outlook to consider it for rankings, at the most it could have found a place between fourth to sixth. I say this because it would have scored very low against infrastructure; somewhere similar to GLC, Mumbai and hence nosedived. In hindsight I would say well done NUJS! you saved yourself the blushes.
Infra 19 Jun 2011, 11:17

Here Infra I think includes the resources and facilities which are available in a college and not the space. Otherwise, NALSAR could have scored it over NLSIU. Coming to that way, NUJS would have clearly scored good points in Infra. It has a fantastic Library, Hostels are not quite decent if not wonderful, admin block is very huge. And, These rankings would have affected NUJS. If this kind of rankings had affected it, then CLAT aspirants would have preferred it below NLIU and NLUJ. And, that is not the case. It could have easily secured 3rd spot. :)

This is just crazy...i agree with the rankings to an extent.....BHU....are you kidding me.....GLC has the 5th best placement according to this data....we have the best industry interface....NALSAR and bhopal have better infrastructure....then any law college of india....BHU doesnt even deserve a top 10 rank....GLC is way better than ILS or symbi we have better placements and industry interface....and bhopal should not be in the top 3....they had horrible placements this year worst among all nationals...they would agree...GLC had better placements than them.....GLC has the best exposure among all colleges...even Bangalore.....but still NLS NALSAR AND NUJS ARE the best colleges of india....BHU....plzzzzzzz

At no point of time GLC is better than HNLU / ILS/ Symbiosis. Again how can it make into top 10???This is just a strange thing.Again the biggest name NLUD is also missing from the Top 10 list. So I think such list is being prepared by some headless chickens who are the faculties of some Engineering collages...Might be there is a possibility..Even in Placement & infrastructure HNLU is far better than GLC then what about RMLNLU. It should be placed within top 10 as it has a good infrastructure along with a good placement this year.So I dont think that anybody is going to follow this ranking list..........

RKM it is.....HNLU is not better in placements....and we know we have very bad infrastructure...but we are happy coz we pay only 5000PA for it and .....the location we are in....the infrastructure looks pretty awesome...for that amount of money we get almost the same facilities as any law school...watever is essentialy required in a law college we do have it....we just dun have those fancy buildings and that is really the govts fault, we are not autonomous, we a re at the mercy of an incompetent university...50% percent seats are reserved for the state students...how many law schools have dat, ...now placements if you have evr worked in the firm or the high court of bombay...u will understand what i am saying..the remuneration is the same the firms recruitng are the same...i say the placements are better coz there are firms, corporates, solicitors, senior counsels,LPO's everyone is recruiting...every year we place around 100 people articles and associates including...and dun talk about symbiosis...its all about money there the world knows abt it....and wid ILS.....they are good at some things and we are good at some things.. and NLU's were created to produce litigants...how many have they produced...and with the trend i dun see them producing good litigators also...in GLC Litigation is still the way not because of lack of opportunities but because the students want to pursue litigation...i really dun wanna talk abt RMLNLU coz it is still very young and it is trying to find it's feet....are u telling me a college....which places arnd 100 people in firms, corporates, with senior counsels and as article clerks....with 10 students every year going abroad to harvard, cornell etc....highest packages touching 14 lakh, organizing the best moots, winning the best moots, the alumni we have, doing so well in litigation which is essentially what a lawyer should do....affordable fees, a brilliant location, decent academics..doesnt deserve a top ten rank...m not saying we are better than the top 4 NLU's...but seriously if u cant agree to this....than i am sorry to say that there is no point discussing

If ur only concern was placements then why the hell did u go to glc...or for that matter why did u choose doing law, you could have very well opted for some mba in some mumbai college and counted your cash to the bank!

Law schools and law is just not about some job in some family owned concern ( read a law firm), thereby these law school rankings cant just be solely based on the same.

Most students in the National Law Schools opt for high paying jobs to try and repay or justify the high fees which they pay through 5 years. However I guess that could never be your concern with the miserly change you pay at GLC in the name of fees. (Your fees seems to be the only thing inflation hasnt caught up with)

So opt for the life which most of your illustrious alumni have chosen for in the court!

Studying the Law is a process, placements a byproduct!

There is an apocryphal story that NUJS shooed away India Today survey takers when they visited the campus in 2006 and thus did not feature in rankings. this latest decision to boycott outlook may seem to be brave and right but instead of not providing data to outlook, NUJS should have asked for more transparent system with a demand for breakdown of data of each category for every institution. there are some obvious flaws in this ranking, as has been already pointed out by the article, like how did NLS get less points in selection process than ILS, BHU, GLC and NALSAR? NALSAR and NLS take students from CLAT, so how can they be graded differently also NLS is consistently the top preference of clat takers, further would it mean that clat is inferior to entrance test of BHU? lot of unanswered questions!

@GLCite... I bet none of the CLAT takers even consider joining outside the folds of National Law Schools... they join GLC, at least the majority, not because they want to but due to lack of other option.

Lets see what GLC provides: very few classes... the students are mostly found interning in Mumbai’s law firms for the complete duration of their course, in some case for 3 to 4 years. So in effect what they do is join GLC to get hired as a intern and keep working at a minimal stipend until they get their degree. They are taken onboard by the same law firm if they are half decent and the law firm has any sense of gratitude to the work that they did at less then the salary of a peon.
GLC is lucky to be ranked here as it is not better than Amity and certainly not than GNLU. I think it got 8th rank because of its placement in Mumbai firm where prior to joining they already have slogged for 3-4 years. And mind you that is not what industry interface is.

when did i say they do.......i agree NLS NALSAR NUJS NLU-J is better than GLC even GNLU....read comment number 3 i have ranked GNLU above GLC or u have a habit of commenting without knowing the facts...u will make a great lawyer....ok.....m an intern at a law firm i get paid 6000pm almost all law firms pay interns minimum 5000pm as stipend....thats not a peons salary...wen u consider it in the context of internships...and u seriously dun knw the facts....even in N schools half of the people get PPO's do u know wat a PPO is Pre-Placement Offer....which means u work in a firm as an intern and u get absorbed....now...the only difference being we have work experience of a minimum of 2 years unlike others who have a work experience of min 4 months....which is something to be proud of.....and ya no law firm will recruit 'half-decent' people and pay them good money.....and i really dun wanna brag but wen we pass out we have more practical experience...more exposure....and even book knowledge....while u guys hardly have practical knowledge.....we know how to make use of our limited resources in GLC....and glc students get paid an equivalent amount as other students....so your argument of salary is completely baseless.....and i never said it derserved to be in the top 5...the only reason y GNLU is better is infrastructure and faculty....GLC has better placements than them......and better exposure.....and more opportunities.....GLCites are not corporate 'duds' like others.....even if they dun join firms....they can do pretty well in litigation....which is not the case for every other 'average' law schoolite
Wat does GLC provide
1.Practical experience
2.opportunities
3.freedom
4.Chance to work and learn from the best
5.even 'book' knowledge

and ya its not that lectures dun happen.....they do happen...and students do attend...u really dun knw the facts dude...u say its ranked here because ' placement in a mumbai firm where they have already slogged themselves for 5 yeard'...dude thats the best part abt GLC and dun temme placements is not the criteria for rankings....and even i can say..GNLU or any other law school for that matter is ranked'only because of its infrastructure and faculty and a college where a student slogs himself for 5 years by making projects etc.'if u didnt understand...i just wrote this to prove how lame ur comment abt glc being ranked coz of placements was....because every college gets ranked because of it's good qualities...nothing else.....the bottom line is U GUYS STUDY but we STUDY and WORK.....still i think that the rankings given in #3 are the most suitable

what the hell is he going on yapping about? :s

i don't get this obsession with washing plates. with so many things to do in a city (as opposed to some godforsaken village), when you actually have a life, running a tap for 20 seconds over your plate is hardly the downside of anything.

It seems there's more time spent in Nagarbhali (or whichever village NLS is at) and Shameerpet (ever heard of that? yeah that's where NALSAR is!) with kids sitting on their asses imagining NUJS kids washing their plates than the time (or effort) NUJS kids put in washing their own plates!

Gawwdd! What losers!!
It's called 'a life'. Please go get one!

Evidently, nobody at NUJS felt the need to have their self-worth validated by a magazine which is incapable of even defending its own views. The magazine probably realizes that people don't buy their magazine to read what they already know! It's only when the rankings have that element of randomness (although these rankings seem to reek of randomness sprinkled with a shadow of truth - which might just in fact be coincidental!) that anyone would even buy their magazine!

To see NLS / NALSAR students actually SIDING with such blatantly erroneous rankings makes one think about how goddamn insecure students in these law schools are!! Not insecure? Or maybe then just bored in their suffocating and depressing village towns with little else to do? Don't worry! 5 years go by in a breeze! Well, at least at NUJS they certainly do :D.

Clearly, NUJS didn't even have any interest in bothering with these sham "rankings" - and you morons are still obsessing with NUJS! Hah! What fun.

Hm. I suppose I can see why NLS and NALSAR kids are happy with these rankings.

Most of the NLS / NALSAR kids commenting here actually wanted to make it to GLC and BHU, but couldn't. They feel vindicated now that NLS and NALSAR have been ranked higher than GLC and BHU!

Why?

GLC's selection procedure is the MOST rigorous (244.8 points)! BHU's selection procedure was too hard to crack for them, you see (hence the 238.4 points!). NALSAR was a bit easier (233.7 points). For those who couldn't make it to GLC / BHU, their distant third choice was NALSAR, and NLS was their fall back option (231.8 points).

Hm, not true?

Maybe rankings are wrong, no?

{NUJS points finger at you and laughs. Haha. Told you so. What an absolute idiot you are.}

Instead of saying which law schools have topped the ranking, LI instead begins with the caption NUJS boycotts. Kian you too seem to suffer from NUJS dose. Coming t the point, well can NUJS do anything better. Boycott everything that goes against their philosophy, a la communist type. No wonder they come from the red bastion. For NUJS and it students the thinking is the world conspires against them and they are the only righteous left. By the way what are NUJS achievements? startups or moots? or the recruitment by AMSS?. They are

My suggestion is let LI also keep track of number of moots participated by a law school and allot marks for only those moots where if not the top ten then top six law schools participate. Else the one who goes to all places generally end up lucky to earn points and hence the moot ranking. I am interested in knowing, how many moots did NALSAR, NUJS, NLUD, NLSIU, NLIU, HNLU, GNLU, ILS and NLUJ participated. I would not be surprised to know that NLSIU, NLIU, ILS participated in far less number of moots when compared to others. Also, a lot of law schools do not support funding of international moots and hence are adversely affected by the current rankings. Just see the points picked up by some the law schools because of international moots. Hence I think there is some serious flaw with the rankings.
Participation 19 Jun 2011, 11:48

NLSIU participated in almost every moot. They participated in a new moot at NALSAR which I never heard of. (Other than FAMOUS NALSAR MOOT).

So, according to you what should be the parameters to judge a law school?

I think they should be Faculty, Selection Process, Recruitment, Student Achievements. Start ups. Whats wrong with that? They want to do something of their own, mind it.

NUJS has taken a very right step. You know, I know how flawed these India Today and Outlook rankings are.

I considered not covering the rankings at all this year since every year they and other law school ranking stories turn into a bit of a nonsensical farce and catfight and I don't find it provides much illumination. And it is not as though the methodology is so transparent that getting one point more or less or a college going up or down would mean anything, right?

Nevertheless, since we covered the NUJS complaint and Outlook's reply, it was fair to cover these rankings, about which the only vaguely interesting thing from a 'journalistic' perspective appears to be NUJS' exclusion this year (although we also mentioned NLU-J in the headline).

Anyway, do please tell what headline we should/could have chosen instead?

NLUJ has a cap of 25 moots per year. They did not participate in many of the MPL moots because of this cap.

dude, sitting in any law college, you wont give a fu** about whom OUTLOOK INDIA TODAY LI or any other rating agency, ranks first or second.....world knows and this country knows that there are only three established law colleges in India and one upcoming.....NLS BANGALORE,NALSAR HYDERABAD,NUJS KOLKATA and NLU DELHI......so, stop fighting on this and grow up......

and trust me, if at all any college in India can come closer to these ivy-league colleges of India could be NLU JODHPUR.....so,dear CLAT ASPIRANTS,work hard to get into these colleges to honestly learn the law and not to get the fu**ing placement because that u can get at GLC MUMBAI without even attending college

I was having a conversation with few Bangalore people in Matri Mall. I asked them do they know National Law School. They denied it. And, they were not even aware of any such college in Bangalore itself. And, those people belonged to high class. Commendable stand by NUJS to boycott the rankings. Rather than just sulking, ranting, and raving in protest, it's whole approach in questioning the previous year's ranking was mature and methodical, and its reasoning for boycotting this years rankings is completely justified.

Way to go Shamnad and NUJS. Proud of you. Irrespective or whether it is ranked or not by Outlook, NUJS continues to remain among the top law schools in the country.

How can the CLAT law schools selection process marks vary when the selection process is the same? Also, wonder what is so great about BHU Varnasi's and GLC's selection process that they are ranked the top two?

I don't see the point here. Either everyone is happy that NUJS has not been ranked by Outlook or they are irritated that Noojies are not reacting to the fact that they have been left out. What is the point? i mean why is everyone so worked up and out to prove that NUJS is some kind of S***hole. Some are unhappy because apparently some student from NUJS blogged about some NLU being a failed institution, but then understand it was written in blog which simply contains one's personal view. People are unhappy because NUJs students rank law schools as per their wish, again someone's personal opinion. Some just want to trash its recruitment some crib just for fun..I request you all to please come out of these personal insecurities and do something better with your life. Some people crib that crib because NUJS students wash their own plate..how juvenile can you guys get? and yes Start or upstart, that's a very witty way to see things, but friend in real life it takes more than just your wit to do something on your own rather towing the line by being someone else's paper-bitch.

Considering these facts:

1. The best placements. (See legallyindia for details)

2. Best faculty. (See websites and compare)

3. Best location.

NUJS deserves to be number 2. And that is what the democratically elected CLAT preferences show. NUJS is the number 2 choice of CLAT aspirants.

To be honest, I haven't met any student from BHU Law as yet so I shall refrain from commenting. Of course there are smart people everywhere. Even among law schools lesser known there are people who work hard and eventually come up. I've met people from Allahabad University who impressed me too.

However, these rankings are quite unimpressive, they do not capture any of the real happenings around these law schools.

As a principles stand that NUJS has taken, I support it entirely. Many other universities go all out pandering to these magazines providing rankings. Of course I see it doesn't always quite work out the way they want.

NUJS did make it in the top 10. It questions the credibility of the ranking. Wow! If your law school needs just a slight pat on its back for you to feel more secure for being ranked by someone with no credibility, these rankings are for you alone. Mind you, not for the aspirants, not for the industry, but just you.

Great move NUJS! Other law schools must give a serious thought to the methodology, and if they too feel that the rankings lack credibility, they should give it a miss too and force these magazines to improve and make their methodology more transparent.

someone should come up with a ranking of the hacks whether at Outlook or IToday. They seem to be getting worse each year and perhaps a journalism school for them is fast needed.

For instance,

- Why so much weightage on 'Selection Process' ?

- How come selection process marks vary among the CLAT colleges ?

- How does NLSIU get less in selection than GLC and ILS ??

- Is NLSIU really just 5 points ahead of NALSAR and 2 points ahead of Bhopal? I dont doubt that NALSAR is an excellent place - but seriously - 5 points ? Bhopal though is eons behind in infrastructure - witnessed in person.

- Jodhpur has less infrastructure than Bhopal ?

- Symby gets placement scores comparable to Jodhpur and Bhopal ?? Are they referring to placement of the five year degree students or placement of buildings within the campus ?

This is just a sample of the bizarre inferences one has to come to if the rankings had any credibility. NUJS has done well not to provide data. I think the CLAT preference speaks for itself and only highlights what a farce of a survey these magazines are conducting each year in the name of journalism.

Haha! So you contend that it's a better criteria to be judged on one's marks in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, PE, and other subjects for admission to a law school?

How are 12th marks a better indicator than Legal Aptitude, General Knowledge, Math, Legal Writing (like the section on legal notes we had earlier), English, etc?

Entrances are far superior at weeding out the nerds who learn by rote and get good marks and perform miserably when you test their acumen for legal studies.

I haven't seen a Stephanian cribbing when they were ranked below Loyala or Presidency(same goes for AIIMS when JIPMER was ranked above it). They rather choose to take it in their stride. The last I remember they were ranked no 1 again. Fact no 2: none of the engineering, medical or commerce went out of their way to trash rankings published by national magazines and come out of their ranking. It only happens with law schools and the usual suspects or sore losers are known to everyone. This bit goes without saying. You invariably come out with your rankings, the self proclaimed no 3 and 4, and trash the mag ranking as farce. The fact is, you have to do much more than that to reach an average Indian (who is not from legal background)who wishes to read and know the rankings in law category. It's like I am a lawyer but I also look forward to see the rankings for engineering and medical. What I see is outlook or india today and that's what I believe. I don't think they have any ulterior motive while ranking colleges and yes they of course carry a big reputation much more than some random rankings dished out by sulking souls which no one believes and hardly anyone outside come to know about. And in the end my two cents to the self proclaimed no 3 and 4 - provide information, facts and first hand experience to these reputed research agencies hired by magazines to conduct the survey. Because that's what results in the ranking; nothing else. It is preposterous to see the individual rankings dished out here, it would be as preposterous to allege and bury outlook's rankings.
Anon 20 Jun 2011, 06:55

All good points and therefore the rankings are a farce. Let me put it this way, the legal community in India is a sheltered community- for someone outside peering in, its really difficult to understand the mechanics. Again, within the legal community, the difference the institute you are educated in makes a vast difference depending on whether you are litigating with a senior or in a corporate firm. Whereas whether you are from a law school makes no difference to a senior counsel, it certainly does for a firm. For rankings to be respected, they need to appear to be rational. This one does not because the journalists apply the same standards they would to a normal institution to a law school, whereas the reality is vastly different. Second they rely on what the colleges submit, which is inherently wrong, but they cannot be bothered to go out into the market and assess reality. Finally, if someone relies on this ranking and chooses a wrong college- that would just be criminal
A 20 Jun 2011, 14:00
+0 -0
Read the Outlook's methodology for conducting the survey. The rankings are not just based on the information submitted by law schools but is also a result of peer reviews, views of faculty, legal luminiaries, and who's who's. There are further segmentations under the head of selection process, personality development, infrastructure etc and a cumulative is drawn. All you need to do is to login to Outlook (if not buy the issue) and see it for yourself.
And yes, so much for reality and choosing the wrong college. As if the West Begal NUJS is the only shining armour left. It's ok to live in one's own world, it is criminal to expect others to follow you. Wake up! before its too late.

Some extra points:

1. In the methodology or Outlook table it states that only colleges where more than 3 batches have passed out are eligible. That would exclude quite a few national law schools, including NLU Delhi.

2. it could be that only 10 colleges participated in the survey, hence their selection?

in the year i appeared in law entrance tests (2005), either outlook or india today (dun remember now) ranked ILS ahead of NLSIU...this is ofcourse crazy, bt NLS never challenged a ranking so obviously wrong. the reason- 1. it knows tht its the best; 2. serious candidates are bound to do their research well and decide where to get admissions.
is NUJS really doing a philanthropic exercise by boycotting these rankings and writing letters, with the fear that the law aspirants will get a wrong picture altogether? if noojies really know they're good, why don't they stop publicizing about it and getting insecure over any law school ranks? every1 knows how "accurate" outlook ranks are, and anyways ranks cannot be clear to any aspirant if every year some or the other law school is left out of their survey- all the more reason why, any CLAT aspriant will research law school ranks properly before filling in his preferences.

I went through methodology of one of the components of Outlook 2011 ranking: 'Selection Process' available at http://images.outlookindia.com/Uploads/outlookindia/2011/20110627/page_44_1_20110627.jpg

'Selection Process' has four components: type of entrance exam, application to selected ratio, fees, age.

Under the 'Selection Process' head NLS got 231.8 and NALSAR got 233.7.

Let us follow the methodology adopted by Outlook and redo the sums. We find that type of entrance exam is same for NLS and NALSAR namely CLAT. Application to selected ratio would be same as both have equal number of seats in 2011 namely 83. I do not know how fees would affect the points allotted under it but I assume that lower fees would give higher points but NLS and NALSAR charge same around Rs. 1.70 lakhs pa. Finally for age NLS is 23 years and NALSAR is 13 years old, I presume that points would be higher for older institutions.

Thus on four components under head of 'Selection Process' NLS and NALSAR would score equally on first three namely type of entrance exam, application to selected ratio and fees. So the only component left is age where NLS would get more points than NALSAR.

So question is how did NLS score less that NALSAR under the head of selection process?

I know lex fakes, you are in a habit to post fake, so I wont mind. But, I doubt your factual knowledge that you read 527 as 1000 something. How comical are you :D

(NRI- read again NRI - paise waaale log)
454 - 1st List
527 - 2nd List.

I think your college doesn't teach how to do research and how to read facts.

Come intern under me, I will train you :P

Someone mentioned here that Outlook, etc. had no reason for making biased or faulty reporting. Well I submit to you that that person has probably never seen the world of his papa's estate walls.

Outlook is a business - they have to sell copies, preferably more copies next month than the last. How many copies do you think they would sell if they printed "NLS is the best" year after year? that's why the eyeball grabbing stunts - "ILS pips NLS", "NUJS not figured", and so on. Even negative publicity is publicity, and money paid is revenue irrespective of whether the magazine is bought to read or to wipe your arse. Those jokers at Outlook and IT are laughing their way to the bank while curious folk buy this issue to decipher the survey.

For myself, I don't like this one but - it stinks. But then I'm not a businessman and in all likelihood never will be. So I did the best thing I could think of after that stupid ILS / NLS ranking fiasco - I did not renew my subscription and never regretted it.

Well in which case, and I presume, you must not be reading even the newspapers be it TOI, HT, IE or The Hindu. You must also be not watching the news channels. What do you do then read the propagandas circulated by Noojies and take them as prophecies. Pity!... just pity!!

On second thought: if Outlook is guilty of falsehood for the sake of more eyeballs and hence more business then what do you make of the WB NUJS tactics of self glorification? I am sure you would say not eyeballs but public interest. I just laugh it off...

I don't know what you mean but it does appear rather gaseous - like the press statements released by the psychos across the western border.

Why can't people avoid the temptation to post just for the sake of it

dude,D's statement makes a complete sense...u need to work harder in NUJS to understand things other than filing random suits and making random comments under the veil of public interest...

As I said I don't fault you... it's a case of selective amnesia ... However, I may not agree with what you say but will defend your right to make statements however infantile they are. To understand what you read one has to see the context.

"work hard to understand things"? "selective amnesia" ? If you are indeed lawyer or even law students, then you do yourselves and your institutions a discredit with such statements.

The issue at hand is how scientific these rankings are, given the flimsy basis on which they are prepared and the apparent lack of reasons behind the distinctions. But of course, it's no doubt easier to neatly sidestep this than to search for an answer. Can't blame you for not wanting to exercise your grey cells - i.e. if you have any. But just in the event you do, may be a good idea to try and analyse the rankings in private.

It's not just NLU Bhopal. I remember Symbiosis and Amity used to run two page ads in India Today years ago, in the days when ILS was the 'premier' law institution of the country. Same story for private engineering college ads.

NUJS Kolkata not even in the top ten? Pardon my momentary bout of profanity, but these rankings are horse crap!

Never mind reputation, never mind the overall choice of candidates sitting for CLAT, never mind the opinions of legal professionals all over the country, never mind academic performance and the outcomes of national and international level moot court championships.

I scored 138 in my CLAT and was shortlisted for SLS. I had the option for going to many of the law schools this magazine has ranked above NUJS; but I didn't. I opted for NUJS as my third preference after NLS and NALSAR and got there. I didn't do it out of compulsion or any strong love for Kolkata, I did it after extensive research and consultation with many legal professionals. And I do not regret my decision. I look forward to five years at one of the three elite law colleges of India and I'm forever proud to be an NUJSite.

Outlook, go **** [...].

It sad and disheartening the apex institutes like Lucknow University and Kurukshetra University have not been included in this sham of a rating. All these posers colleges must remember "Class has no Substitute".

we all are aware that most of these magzines sell their rankings in different degrees. OUTLOOK is known for suffering from selective amnesia and delusions, including of grandeur. On top of it they make no excuses about it and happen to be proud about it too.

NLU Bhopal: Rank 3
Flip a couple of pages and guess what?
A full page advertisement by NLU-Bhopal.
Tch tch, Outlook, shame on you. Couldn't have been more blatant. Anyone who considers these rankings (By magazines like India Today and Outlook)as a way to compare universities is a jackass. :)

Why does everyone sideline Faculty of Law, University of Delhi? Its a premier institution and provides an astute knowledge of the law of our country. The fact that it has 5 times the amount of intake than any other national law school, and still manages to place a maximum of its students is commendable. Plus always figures in the top 5 law schools in India.
