TNNLS to appoint DU Prof Kamala Sankaran as VC

The Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS) will appoint CLC Delhi professor Kamala Sankaran as its second vice chancellor (VC).

Sankaran’s appointment will finally relieve NLSIU Bangalore alumni and bureaucrat Arun Roy who was deputed to act as VC after its first VC N Murugavel resigned over differences with its executive council.

Sankaran has been offered the post of VC by a selection committee at TNNLS, confirmed two sources with knowledge of the process. She did not respond to calls and messages for comment since today afternoon.

She has been a professor of law since 2012 at her alma mater, CLC, in the Delhi University where she began her career in 2000 as an associate professor. She did her LLB from CLC in 1982, and her LLM and PhD from the DU’s Faculty of Law in 1985 and 1999, was a lecturer from 1994 to 2000 at Jamia Milia Islamia Delhi’s law faculty, and a research professor for one year in 2006 at ILI, Delhi, according to her profile on DU’s website.

it is understood that Roy has already taken charge of the Metro Water Supply Board in Chennai, as its managing director as per the Board’s website, but will hold the fort until Sankaran joins.

Kian, an interview with Roy AFTER he is relieved should be interesting - NLU alumni, bureaucrat and then as an acting vice-chancellor.

Dear Prachi Mam, kindly give some information on the LLM offered by Azim Premji University. You are advertising for it and I myself want to apply for it but I want to know more about the college, placements, infra, faculty etc.

Their LL.M. programme is being run by the School of Policy and Governance (SPG). They have some excellent faculty members such as Sitharamam Kakarala, Arun Thiruvengadam, N.S. Nigam and Sudhir Krishnaswamy to name a few. The programme is focused on preparing graduates for teaching, research and social justice advocacy.

How the hell can an IAS with just an LLB degree get appointed as VC? It should have been challenged in court. This law school is a mess. Pity that Chennai despite being a metro city is much behind the other NLUs.

Is she a better bowler than Arun, I wonder? We need to focus on the important things in life.
