9 teams win admits to Oxford IPR and Dubai Leiden-Sarin Air Law moots

Five Indian teams booked their tickets to Oxford and four qualified from the national rounds to participate in the Leiden-Sarin International rounds in Dubai after the selection rounds for the [[Oxford International IPR Moot Court Competition|Oxford IPR Moot]] and the [[Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot]] respectively.

A total of 22 teams from around the world were shortlisted to participate in the [[Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot]] on the basis of the memorandum submitted by the teams. The five Indian teams in the list will travel to Oxford in March.

The moot is organized by the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre and the problem is based on trademark infringement at this Tier 5 International Moot in the [[MPL]].

The following Indian teams have qualified: [[Amity Law School, Delhi|Amity Law School IP University Delhi]], [[Government Law College, Mumbai|Government Law College (GLC) Mumbai]], [[Gujarat National Law University|GNLU Gandhinagar]], [[National Law School of India University, Bangalore|NLSIU Bangalore]], [[National Law University Jodhpur]].

Eight teams participated in the national selection rounds of the [[Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot]] which were held at Punjab University, Chandigarh last weekend. The top four teams qualified to participate in the International rounds at Dubai in March and the teams also won prize money of Rs 20,000 each.

A plethora of judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court graced the national rounds, with [[National Law University Delhi|NLU Delhi]], [[Nalsar Hyderabad|Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad]], [[Gujarat National Law University|GNLU Gandhinagar]] and [[Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Government Law College Chennai]] succeeding.

The moot’s coordinator Nitin Sarin confirmed the results and told Legally India: “The international rounds is going to be organized in association with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and will see participation from 10 different countries.”

He added that the 2012 edition of the moot would be held in Istanbul, Turkey.

The MPL now includes the international rounds of the Leiden Sarin Air Law Moot in the MPL as a tier 5 international moot.

since we are on the topic of changing tiers and including new moots in MPL 2, what about the FIAT Justitia Moot organised by Ambedkar GLC Chennai?
It has good judging, a problem framed by Niranjan V. and healthy participation.
It features nowhere in the MPL. Why?

The Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot does not seem to be a part of MPL 2. Any particular reason why Legally India is reporting it ??

I think the biggest factor as to the point whether moot will be in MPL or not is the organizing college. Otherwise I dont see any reason for which Fiat Justitia, AGLC Chennai is not in the list. The problem exceeds the toughest moot. Every team is required to prepare 6 memorials, as there are three problems. Time given is 2 month which cannnot be considered as sufficient. Teams like NUJS, NLIU, HNLU, RMLNLU, ILS, GLC Mumbai, AMITY, NLU DELHI are participating. Overall 24 teams are participating. problem is being set by Rhode Scholor. Its the first edition, but its replacing one of the tradition Swami Govindnath Moot. In such situation, I argue that this moot has to be included in atleast tier 5, as this is a moot deserved to be in list, and the traditional excuse of legally india, that they cannot act retrospectively wont come into their rescue, as the moot is still to happen from 18 th to 20th feb, 2011

Thanks for informing us about the Fiat Justitia Moot.

Let me clear a few things first. The various criteria used in the inclusion of a Moot in the MPL are the number of teams participating, the popularity of the moot,etc. The organizing college is never a factor here.

Also, we have never said that a moot cannot be added at a later stage. In this season, the Commonwealth National Rounds and the Leiden Sarin Air Law Moot were added to the list of MPL Moots at a later stage.

Right now, we are internally deliberating about the inclusion of Fiat Justitia in the MPL.

Thanks for your supportive response. I hope we will be able to see 'Fiat Justitia' either in Tier 4 or Tier 5. Thanks for adding Leiden Sarin.

I know popularity is important factor, thats why BCI International Law is being placed in Tier 3, even though the problem this year is not according to the traditional BCI moot, which is not happening this year.

But I dont see marks of Leiden Sarin Air Law to be updated in the recent standings, as NLU Delhi is still on 71 points, even though they have won national rounds and best memorial. I hope we will see these changes soon.

To clarify, only the international competition of the Leiden Sarin Air Law Moot is included in the MPL. The national selections had eight teams participating, with only two preliminary rounds taking place. There was no best speaker or best memo awarded. Only the top four teams after the two rounds qualified to represent India in the International round to be held at Dubai, which will see participation from ten different countries.

Was there an article on the teams that qualified for ICC Trial Or ICC Paris? NLU-J is one of the two Indian teams that have qualified for ICC Trial.

After speaking to the organisers and having internal discussions, it has been decided that Fiat Jusititia Moot is a part of the MPL 2 as a Tier 5 moot.
