Breaking: NLU Jodhpur wins US Stetson moot, confirms NLU-J convenor

MPL 3: Cleverer, shinier, more polished

[[NLU Jodhpur]] has won the [[Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition]] in Florida for a massive 30 point bump in the Mooting Premier League rankings.

NLU Jodhpur moot court committee convenor Pranay Bagdi confirmed that the college had won at Stetsons late yesterday (31 March).

He added that the winning team would return to India in one week.

The Stetson moot website has not yet been updated. It is the world’s most prestigious moot on environmental law, which was won by Law Society of Ireland in 2011, and by University of Maryland School of Law in 2010.

[[NUJS Kolkata]] was the only other Indian team to have won the moot in 2005. [Correction: NLSIU Bangalore also won the Stetson world rounds in 2001]

The BCI also announced late yesterday that it would start a National Mooting Academy with two NLSIU Bangalore grads, which would become an obligatory part of the syllabus. [This sentence is part of an April Fools’ Day joke story, which was not true. The rest of the article stands, however.]

Full story to follow.

Team MPL is also working on the results of the Vis Hong Kong, Frankfurt Arbitration and the Raisoni moots, which will be published shortly.

I was only half-serious. But its amazing that NLS has sunck to an extent where they lose to NLU Jodhpur!? These new kids put too much emphasis on the drinks and the smokes. In my time (nearly 10 yrs back), the blokes used to drink and practice oral arguments for a month. Now they just drink. If it goes this way, next year they will lose to even GNLU and what-not!? Prof Venkat - are you listening??

‘NLS has sunck to an extent where they lose to NLU Jodhpur’ ‘next year they will lose to even GNLU and what-not’

People who have graduated from NLSIU long back seem to have a rather dismissive view of every college under the sun other than their own alma mater, that’s quite disappointing since people in law school right now don’t share the sentiment (most of us don’t).
It’s ridiculous that they should be allowed to spread this bs on public forums like this.

All law schools produce graduates who are more or less at par with each other, all NLS has for itself now is its early movers advantage of being one of the first law schools in the country , the same is not bound to last.

Seriously, its upsetting but nls just brought it upon themselves. This stetson moot was awarded as a freebie to the team as a reward, a practice that did not exist in my time. I dunno if they want to inspire competition (god knows law school has enough and more) but this only ends up with shady teams being sent to good moots by winning some obscure domestic moot. IMO only top 10 in the selections shud be sent to international moots. Time to change the rules!

Till date NLSIu has not won stetson ,for that matter i don't think any indian team has. And now that NLU Jodhpur has done it , it is only because the NLISU chap were too busy 'drikinng and smoking' or becuse their moot court committe scerwed up in allotting it.

its amazing how the accusations will keep on rolling, no matter what you do.
when we won amity, snobs told us that we win only small moots.
when we won stetson, snobs tell us its because somewhere down the line nls is going wrong.
just be happy for once. its an indian team that beat the University of California in stetson finals.
And if it doesnt go down well with you, try harder next year.
but please, try not to look like a sore loser in public.

Seems clearly like NLU-J has shown clear potential in outshining univs like NUJS and NALSAR as a total package to a prospective Indian law school aspirant on the whole, in light of it's relatively consistent MPL rankings (from the time the league was incepted), along with an impressive recruitment track record(the favourite picks of many a A-1 law firm), coupled with the administrative stability within the univ and from what i heard from my interaction with the alumni, what it gives of the overall student experience..
these folks seem to be level headed and smart at the same time, unlike what we get to see of the more recent junta from the tier-1 law schools..

Keep it up... Great show!!
