Mooting Premier League 2010-11 - MPL2[[Nalsar Hyderabad]] added 15 points to its Mooting Premier League (MPL) kitty after defeating [[NUJS Kolkata]] at the finals of the [[KLA Moot Court Competition, Kerala|KLA Moot]] but remains one point behind score leader NUJS at 92 points.
This was Nalsar’s second MPL cake of the day, following its BCI Moot win but NUJS speaker Bhargav Joshi saved his college from losing the MPL top spot by winning the best male oralist award.
Young law school [[NLU Delhi]] finished as semifinalist in the moot and its speaker Meghna Chandra also won the best female oralist award, keeping the January MPL topper in a strong third place, 13 points behind the leader but comfortably ahead of NLSIU.
[[Government Law College, Mumbai]] won the best memorandum award and [[Army Institute of Law, Mohali]] finished as the other semifinalist in this Tier 4 MPL Moot.
Shyamnath J.G., the convener of the moot confirmed the results and said that as many as 54 teams participated, making this one of the biggest national moots in the country. The Nalsar team consisted of Prianca Ravichander, Kritika Bairavan and Anushree Gupta.
Ravichander told Legally India that that the event was the most well organised moot she had ever seen. “Every other moot should learn from their organization and the stellar manner in which they managed more than 50 teams,” she said. The moot problem was based on constitutional law and aspects of live-in relationships under the Domestic Violence Act.
With four top moots concluding tomorrow, the MPL Standings may see some new leaders and some reshuffling right at the top with Nalsar in the finals of [[GNLU International Moot Court Competition]] (GIMC) against last year’s winner George Washington and the prestigious DM Harish at GLC Mumbai.

This weekend is quite big from mooting perspective. Waiting for DM Harish, GIMC, ULC, Surana Corporate.
Next weekend will also be big, NLUJ Anti Trust, Surana IT, and Fiat Justitia.
@ Kian, Can you tell us, whether Fiat Justitia is being included in MPL for this season. It must be included in tier 4 being a national challenger.

Yeah, the Fiat Justitia Moot is now a part of MPL as a Tier 5 moot to start with, we'll make a formal announcement soon. Please check the rule book on Legallypedia, which has been updated.

NALSAR is almost certain to win the MPL again. NLSIU and NUJS can only in if they do well in some of the big international moots, which is unlikely.

# 3, I think NLU Delhi do have a chance. With strong contention in Jessup World Rounds, and strong teams in NLS Arbitration, and NUJS Herbert Smith. They still do have a chance. So, better dont forget NLU Delhi for contention any of the top 3 spots this year.

as far as I am aware, and you can check with the organisers, KLA does not have "best male speaker" award. It is an overall "best speaker" award which Bhargav Joshi received. "Best Lady Advocate" is awarded to the best female speaker. So if the best female speaker had more points than the best male speaker, there would be only one person getting both awards for best advocate and best lady advocate. Therefore, I think that best female speaker should not get any points under the MPL.

Overall points for best speaker is 8 in tier 4 moot, due to no overall best speaker, 4 -4 points being alloted.

As far as I am aware (heard from someone at KLA) Bhargav Joshi was "Best Student Advocate", which is the same as the "overall best speaker". So how can you allot 4-4 points? PS: I am not Bhargav Joshi or his team from NUJS. I am just concerned about the fairness in this marking system. The same was done for the BCI Moot in another post. Since I am not aware of the nature of the awards there, I am not commenting on that. My suggestions are restricted to the KLA Moot alone.

Kian, I have participated in KLA. I know there is Best Student Advocate Award and a Best Lady Advocate Award. The Best Student Advocate is an overall best speaker award. If a female mooter wins that award, she would win both the above mentioned awards. Best Lady Advocate is a measure to encourage female participation and it is not the same as the best speaker. As the same person can possibly get both the awards, 'best student advocate' is the overall best speaker and should be given 8 points.
Rule 3 of the KLA rules (http://keralalawacademy.in/KLAMoot2011.html) states: " Two team prizes (Rolling Trophies), one prize for the best memorials and two individual performance prizes and one prize for the best lady participant will be awarded according to order of merit as adjudged by the Committee of Judges." Thus, the Best Lady Advocate is different from the Best Speaker and Second Best Speaker, the two "individual performance prizes" mentioned in the rule.
If you require further proof, I could request Bhargav to send you a scanned copy of his certificate which will establish that the award is not "Best Male Advocate", but "Best Student Advocate", clearly designating it as the overall best speaker award.
