Nalsar battles into last 16 of Jessup Moot world cup, facing Oxford in Washington [UPDATE: India out of Jessup]

Authoritative sources have confirmed that Nalsar Hyderabad is the only Indian team remaining in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Nalsar is facing Oxford University in the octa-finals of the competition, out of more than 550 participating teams.

The team consists of third year students Debarpan Ghosh, Chinmayi Sharma and Ravishankar Krishnan, and second year student Srimukundan Narayanaswamy.

Update: India (and therefore Nalsar) is out of the quarter finals, according to Jessup’s Facebook page.

The finals are set to take place tomorrow, US time (Saturday 12 April).

NLU Delhi and NUJS Kolkata qualified for the Jessup from North India, while Nalsar qualified alongside NLSIU Bangalore in the South India qualifiers early this year.

NLSIU Bangalore won the Jessup last year.

Lost a close octa to Oxford last night. Still it's a third year, have time make a second go at the Holy grail. Best of luck guys.

Nalsar's present fortunes parallel those of Manchester United - back to back league wins a couple of seasons ago; won in Europe (Vienna); now languishing 6th in the league; the university founded by their current VC above them in the league; haven't won anything of note in the domestic circuit this season but have managed quarterfinals of the most prestigious competition in the mooting world.

NUJS was the other team which broke to advanced rounds (round of 32) last year. It was Ranked 11th in the world, won 25th best memo hon men (all available on ILSA's 2014 Jessup website). The team comprised of Ashish Alexander, Dhvani Shah, Neha Mather, Payoshi Roy, and Zubin Dash. Kindly correct/update your info.
