NLIU Bhopal and NLSIU Bangalore made it to the world rounds of the 18th Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, after Bhopal won and Bangalore was runners up at the South India selection rounds of the moot held at NLUO Cuttack.

Bhopal has maintained its lead in the Herbert Smith Freehills Mooting Premiere League (MPL) Season 5 with this tier 3 win. Shivani Garg, Aditi Srivastava and Swati Shanakar clinched the regional round win for the law school.

Srivastava told Legally India that a good general strategy to follow for the moot is to have a “clear structure” for oral arguments instead of citing “random authorities”. She added that it helped to mould arguments according to the judges being addressed – more fact-based arguments for judges less well versed in the area of law. “If one prepares for two months seriously, with hard work again, that should do,” she said.

Nalsar Hyderabad and ILS Pune picked up semi-finalist points at the moot, with the best student advocate citation going to Lakshmi Venkatraman from Nalsar. RMLNLU Lucknow picked up the best memorial citation.

NLIU and NLSIU will now compete internationally on 10 to 12 April 2014 at Stetson University, Florida. Two other Indian teams who will join them as competitors will be decided after this weekend’s North India qualifying rounds for the moot.

Upcoming moots: The Oxford Price Media Law Moot Court South Asia Rounds, Delhi – November 21 - 24; Stetson India North Rounds - November 22 - 24
