In the mooting stakes NLU Delhi is still on top, as NLSIU Bangalore now stands at the second spot of the Mooting Premier League (MPL) 6, sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills, leaving NLU Jodhpur in third spot. NLU Orissa has climbed up to 5^th spot followed by Nalsar Hyderabad and NUJS Kolkata.

NUJS-Herbert Smith Freehills corporate law moot

The team from NLIU comprising Rohan Harne, Raghavi Vishwanath and Vaibhavi Tadwalkar bested NLSIU in the finals of 7^th edition of NUJS-HSF National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition held from 6th-8th March, 2015.

Vaibhavi Tadwalkar, who was part of the winning team, commented, “We must admit that the HSF experience was extremely challenging, right from the very beginning. This was primarily because of the specialized law the moot itself deals with. Secondly, since it is an invited moot, it naturally meant that the competition was going to be very tough, as it was. Lastly, the prestige of the competition and the high standard that it had already set added to the pressure.”

“The preliminary stages were the most gruelling since we were judged by extremely competent judges, many of them being partners at law firms and others with years of litigating experience backing them. More importantly, we consider it our privilege that we got the opportunity to interact with the likes of Justice Sen, Dr Kristin van Zwieten from the University of Oxford, Mr. Chris Parsons and Mr. Nicholas Peacock from Herbert Smith Freehills, London.”

She added, “The sheer magnanimity of the applicable laws, SEBI Regulations, RBI Notifications as well as the lack of Indian jurisprudence did unsettle us initially. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the process, even though it was quite strenuous for us since our University exams were scheduled to take place from the next day of the moot.”

She regarded ILS Pune as the toughest competitor whom they faced in the semi finals.

Naman Singh Bagga from National Law University, Odisha was adjudged as the best speaker while the best memorial award went to the runners up team of NLSIU.

ILS Law College, Pune and National Law University, Odisha were the other two semi finalists at the tier 4 moot which saw a participation of 19 colleges this year.

ULC Bangalore Moot

The team from CMR Law School Bangalore comprising of Shamilee Rajkumar, Ashwin Shanbhag and Ambar Rana bested the team from NLU Odisha to clinch the XIXth edition of the ULC Bangalore Moot Court organized at University Law College, Bangalore from Feb 27 to March 1, 2015.

Ashwin Shanbag, who was part of the winning team commented, “The first thing was the selection of memo as only 28 memos were selected out of 57 and we knew our memorial was not that good as our university exams had just concluded and we had some ten odd days to draft the memorial when we all were in different cities. But we had practiced a lot in front of our faculty members and friends which certainly boosted our confidence level.”

“Furthermore, me and my co speaker Shamilee were part of the runners up team at Christ moot this year and that acted as an impetus to work harder this time to win the competition. It was an incredible experience and our team’s efforts finally succeeded.”

“The toughest round would be our quarter finals against JGLS Sonepat who were incredibly good being first year students.”

Smrithi Singh from NLU Odisha bagged the best speaker award while Shubangi Jain of NLIU Bhopal received the award for best researcher. Faculty of Law, Allahabad University was declared to be the winner of best memorial award.

The Competition received a total of 57 registrations out of which 28 teams were selected for the oral rounds on the basis of memorial scores. JSS Law College, Mysore, and Symbiosis Law School, Noida were the other two semi finalists at the Tier 5 moot.
