Nuals beats NLIU in video conference finals of elite international Stetson moot competition

A team from Nuals Kochi has won the prestigious 24th Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, beating a team from NLIU Bhopal in the finals held via video conference.

According to Stetson’s official Facebook page:

Congratulations to the winners of the 24th Annual Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, Shilpa Prasad and Pranav Valiathan Pillai from National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) in Kochi, India!

Great work also from runners-up Rayana Mukherjee and Aaditya Shankar Dixit from National Law Institute University in Bhopal, India!

The best memorial prize was also bagged by the Nuals team.

Second best oralist was bagged by Nuals’ Shilpa Prasad, while fifth-placed oralist was NLIU’s Rayana Mukherjee.

The seminfinals had seen Nuals and NLIU, alongside a team from Ireland and the US, according to Stetson’s Facebook page.

NLIU had in 2018 also made it to finals of the Stetson.

In 2015, NLU Jodhpur and NUJS Kolkata had made it to the finals of the Stetson moot, which was then held in Florida.

This would go a long way in dispelling the myth that only the few earlier NLUs are worth getting into and all the later ones are completely useless. Rightly so, too.

I believe they also have a Rhodes Scholar from there. As for gauging competence of an institution, I doubt you have got the locus standi to do that yourself. So ditch the judgment.

Sad that Kian stopped the LI moot rankings and placement rankings the moment his favourite NLUs started losing supremacy.

Pretty sure that his favourite ones would have still been at the top of the rankings, at least nls and nujs had a good mooting season. Although it's also true that the difference in the overall quality of students in the top 6-7 colleges have been decreasing and I feel this has more to do with an increasing number of bright students in school going for law. Oh and also, as long as the top rankers continue to place nls, nalsar and nujs at the top of the preference list, they aren't going to lose their supremacy

Kian, I am sorry to say but your website may be boycotted by students and alumni of younger NLUs. You constantly publicise NLSIU/NALSAR/NLUD and hide their faults. Achievements of younger NLUs are never highlighted. As someone has rightly pointed out, MPL was discontinued after GNLU topped it and it di into suit your agenda. .

That's because Stetson news cannot be blacked out. It is a compulsory story. I am talking about optional stories. For example, LI has highlighted that NLUD and JGLS have NLU alumni as faculty, and will do the same when the new NLSIU hires are complete. But why does he not say that younger NLUs also have NLU alumni as faculty?

Remember: the public perception score in NIRF depends on media coverage.

I think it is time LI does a comprehensive story covering all NLU alumni teaching in India at least, across various universities. Permanent tenure holders and contractual ones.

Trust me, not many people care about colleges once they've graduated. The only ones who do either have a chip on their back or are pompous fools for thinking graduating from a certain college makes them great somehow.

If you're in GNLU, you'll get a sufficient degree of training and teaching in the course of your last school. Baaki lockdown mai ye timepass karna hai toh kar lo, log toh kya kya nahi karr rahe hai

On the faculty issue, NUALS is actually among the best, possibly top 3. Kerala is widely recognised as the intellectual hub of India and Prof Menon and several leading legal minds have been from Kerala. Many NLU alumni also teach at NUALS, though Legally India will obviously not do a faculty comparison to protect certain colleges.

Please share source of this information. If this is your educated opinion, I appreciate the efforts you have(?) undertaken to go through records/ CVs of faculty across NLUs. Major props.

The NUALS website mentions 2 profs, 2 associate profs, 8 assistant profs of law. Out of these 12, 10 people have their profiles given. None of the 10 is an NLU alumnus. I just checked. I doubt the other 2 are either. Not sure whether commentator 8 was just trolling. Not that it means the 12 are not good teachers, I won't know that and only their students would. Just doing some fact checking. There are also 18 people named as visiting faculty of law. None of them has their profiled provided. It is possible that some of them are from various NLUs. But a university with only 12-13 permanent faculty (there is one eco faculty) does not entirely inspire confidence on the academic side.

The termination of MPL on LI was possibly ordered by certain lobbies. Note also that the points system was very biased. Top international moots like Stetson and Oxford IP were given lower points than some rubbish India moots.

There are several students who drop out of the other NLUs that you mentioned too every year. It proves nothing, one way or another. Get a better sense of logic.
Disclaimer: I do not know how good or bad NUALS is. To be honest, don't particularly care either.
