Symbi Pune wins v NLU Delhi at NLU-J’s 5th Antitrust moot, both rise in MPL

Symbiosis Pune bested NLU Delhi at the fifth NLU Jodhpur antitrust moot, though Delhi still managed to win the most points in the Mooting Premier League (MPL) season 5, sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills, this weekend.

Gayatri Pradhan, Risha Sharma and Mahwash Fatima led Symbiosis to victory. The team was not reachable for comment at the time of going to press.

NLU Delhi speakers Saloni Sharma and Kirti Soni and researcher Deepan Shah fought Symbiosis for the trophy in the finals, and Soni and Shah too, respectively, clinched the best speaker and best researcher citations.

Shah said: “This moot is for a very short period. If you delay, it becomes difficult to deal with. The competency is to be demonstrated in a short time. The interesting part of antitrust is that besides legal research as required in every other moot, this one requires in depth market research and reasoning. Working on these can let one score brownie points at the moot.”

Last year’s antitrust winner ILS Pune broke up to the semi-finals alongside Nalsar Hyderabad.

NLU Delhi – last year’s MPL runner-up - is now in fourth place in the MPL with 105 points, while Symbi Pune is in 11th with 51 points.

NLSIU Bangalore - last year’s winner – still leads with 173 points, just ahead of NLIU Bhopal with 140 points and NLU Jodhpur with 120 points.

In other MPL news, NLSIU Bangalore won the Vis Pre-Moot hosted at NLU Delhi, which liveblogged the final showdown.

NLSIU BIAS? 12 Mar 2014, 13:14

The MPL has again shown how biased it is towards NLSIU by giving them points for a moot which is not even a part of MPL!! Please go check your own rulebook . The 13th Amity National Moot Court is not even a part of the MPL for which you have given them 31 points!! Please deduct the points which have been unfairly given here.

The Amity Law School moot is actually part of the MPL this year:
http://www.legallyindia.com/wiki/MPL_5_rulebook

It was mooted for inclusion last year and was added this year after consultation with some of the top MPL MCCs...

Amity Delhi's moot is a Tier 4 moot, while Amity Noida's is a Tier 5 competition.

One, consider upgrading this moot? It's extremely well organized and attended every year, and appears to be growing from strength to strength

Two, aren't organizer points supposed to equal the points for the losing semi-finalist?

Also, I note you still haven't fixed the Jessup organizer problem for the north

How badly would have the second NLU Del speaker messed up that it didnt win the moot even after best researcher and best speaker?
Just to clarify... 15 Mar 2014, 19:56

The Overall Best Speaker is based on the performance in the prelims. If you haven't noticed, there is a different award for the Best Speaker in the finals.
And also the Best Researcher award has no bearing on the result of the final round.
