CLAT 2021 sees (potentially) first postponement

The 2021 Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) has been rescheduled from 9 May 2021 to 13 June due to a clash with the CBSE Board exam schedule that had been announced last week.

The draft press release dated today (see picture above) stated:

The Executive Committee of the Consortium of National Law Universities met on 6 th January, 2021 to consider rescheduling the date of the CLAT 2021 exam due to clashes with the CBSE Board examination schedule announced last week.

The date for CLAT 2021 has been rescheduled to Sunday, the 13th June, 2021 from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM. The UG and LL.M. exams shall be conducted on this date.

The CBSE board exams are scheduled to be held from 4 May 2021 until 10 June 2021.

Those dates could potentially also cause a problem for NLU Delhi’s All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), which is set for 2 May 2021.

Faizan Mustafa is a good academician. He replies to all the queries as well. The only query which is giving him hard time is the one in the form of petition in Hyderabad High Court filed by a fellow faculty from nalsar. Has been dodging since last few months.

Ask and you shall receive. Go to Telangana HC site, click on 'Case Status Information'. Click on the "Party Name" option under the 'Search by' menu to the left. Select the 'Unknown' option for party and type in "NALSAR" as party name and "2020" as the year. Put in the captcha and lo and behold! It's a petition from a senior faculty regarding their promotion.

I doubt this is going to make students care about this. Trr doesn’t have a stellar reputation as a great teacher.

But this does illustrate a lot that’s wrong at nalsar. You let incompetent folks stay - you’re eventually going to have to promote them and give them more and more power. At the cost of other more deserving faculty

Why does the promotion have to be at the cost of other deserving faculty? If you are aware of the UGC CAS system, then you would know that it does not depend on vacancy. Everybody after a given number of years would get promoted to the next higher post.

Surprised at LI's silence on the BCI LLM controversy. It has direct implications for NLSIU.
Guest 7 Jan 2021, 04:54

NLSIU is not affected by the BCI LLM rule change. The Karnataka HC has effectively recognised NLSIU as a special institution distinguishable from NALSAR, NUJS, NLUD etc, which the SC is expected to uphold. The Karnataka HC case was filed by the BCI itself. JGLS may also be exempt by virtue of being an Institution of Eminence. But other colleges will be affected by the rule change.

Yes, NLSIU doesn't even grant LLBs and LLMs any more. It grants only SIL, special in law status. In fact, one might be pardoned for wondering whether the Karnataka HC judge considered Sudhir as his special in-law. The rest of the NLUs are all outlaws now, with GNLU lording over in the wild, wild, West.

Let's wait for Bar & Bench/LI to clarify the LLM rule in the coming days from NLU VCs. The BCI notification may be challenged.

Bar & Bench will avoid taking sides on the LLM issue as they want to be on good terms with both Manan Mishra and the NLU community. However, if Kian pursues the story he will tear Mishra to shreds.

Not sure why LI censored my comment. I had posted TRR's bio with publications. Anyway, below is the link if anyone has doubts. He has 5 articles and 8 book reviews in the ICFAI Journal of Environmental Law + chapters in books published by Vrinda Publishing House, Mittal Publications, A.P.H. Publishing Corporation and Bharati Vidyapeeth New Law College,Pune. His educational qualifications are M.L. (Andhra University), Ph.D. ( Environmental Law)(Andhra University).

The questions to ask are:

- Is it relevant what journals one publishes in and what publishing houses one writes chapters for, or does any publication anywhere count? Is there a hierarchy? How is it determined?

- Is it relevant which university one obtained degrees from? Do NLUs and foreign universities carry more weight?

If the answer to everything is no, then TRR wins the case. If yes, then Faizan wins, but Faizan must also make clear what the criteria are. Maybe Kian should investigate. JGLS and NLSIU post-Sudhir make distinctions, but does NALSAR?

For UGC promotions, none of those factors matters. These days, UGC has started accepting publications only in UGC listed journals, but it cannot be applied retrospectively. From what I saw of the petition details, the person is asking for promotion due since before the latest UGC Regulations.

The way you have tried to prove the case against Raghvendra Sir is commendable. I understand where you are coming from. Next time, just have the decency of doing the comparative analysis of other faculty members of nalsar and copy pasting their profile as well.

Barring two or three faculty members at nalsar, everyone at nalsar has similar profile in terms of publications and educational background like Raghvendra Sir. If others with similar profiles got promotions over the years why was he denied promotions ? He has been subjected to a lot of internal University politics.

FYI both Faizan and Dhanda have a very good opinion about Raghvendra Sir, its just that Raghvendra Sir is a victim of and was unable to fight the dirty internal faculty politics. Regardless of whatever you say about the faculty concerned, if you have been his student or you are his colleague, you know he is a humble man who gives his 100 percent to the institution. Lets permit him to fight his cause peacefully. I am his student and was shocked at the way you copy pasted his profile last night especially when you know that by doing this you have exposed him to further politics in the University.

You have been very selective about his profile and forgot to mention that he was a founding faculty member at NUJS Kolkata and worked there for years. He was also suppose to join NLSIU back in the day at the request of Late Madhav Menon. All these years of his work at nalsar, he has not been served a single show cause for his work or otherwise while a number of current faculty members in the current rosters have been. He has been a ghost writer for a lot of senior faculty members at nalsar for which he has never received his due credit.

I have got little hope left in this Supreme Court. They would probably cave in once Mishra starts threatening lawyer-strikes.
