NLU Delhi home proctored admissions exam AILET postponed

AILET 2020 postponed
AILET 2020 postponed

NLU Delhi’s All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) exam has been postponed again from 18 August to an unspecified future date.

Yesterday, a notice was posted on NLU Delhi’s website reading “Postponement of AILET 2020 Activities (27/07/2020)“.

The linked-to PDF does not explicitly state that the AILET has been postponed but states more mysteriously:

It is informed to all the aspirants of AILET 2020 that due to Covid19 situation there will be changes in the schedule of all activities. The revised schedule for all the activities will be notified shortly.

All the aspirants are advised to keep visiting the University website for the latest information related to AILET 2020.

Yesterday we had reported that the home-proctored Symbiosis admissions exam, SLAT, had faced the possibility of easy cheating, one proof of concept attempt even having been uploaded to YouTube, though the university said that all cheating attempts would be identified after the exam by software.

It's becoming increasingly clear that all NLUs will have to scrap the 2020 exams entirely. Online proctoring means cheating, offline means health risk. Cases in India are projected to peak between Sep and Nov, overtaking the US.

Did the IT cell downvote this?

NLUs aren't going for online proctoring. Only NLUD is.

Read the original comment-

can't do online proctoring - because cheating; and
can't do CLAT at test centres - because health concerns

Therefore, may need to scrap.

Original comment is spot on. I fail to see why it is being downvoted. I thought it could be the IT cell as the ocmment raises issues of how badly we have dealt with the pandemic.

As the downvoting of 1.2 goes to show, trolls have got a problem with facts.

Please cancel all the law entrances and allot us NLU as per our 12th board percentage. please.

Also I have 98.5 in 12th class under Bihar board, which NLU would i get?

any leads will be appreciated!

Congrats on your great board percentage! The only law school you might get is CNLU Patna since none of the other accept the Bihar board marks. Sorry :p

Allotting nlus on the basis 12th Mark's is not just done. People like you who have high scores will have an undue advantage over droppers and students who have scored less...there's definitely no need to make nlus like du

Hey Legally India, I was one of the students who gave SLAT 2020 and if it was not for your article I would not have know that cheating if not mass cheating took place. I certainly feel betrayed and depressed by what has happened and by that fact that preparation seems to have gone vain. I just hope that you will raise the issue of CLAT will be using the very same company TCS for their exam too. PLEASE DON'T COME FOR ME IN THE COMMENT SECTION I AM ALREADY GOING THROUGH A LOT.

CLAT isn't using TCS for online exams to be taken from home. The exam is going to be held at test centres, where most of such cheating can't be done.

Clearly Sudhir was right all along. Will the haters apologise now?
Guest 28 Jul 2020, 09:04

Why exactly is Sudhir alone being given the credit for this? He isn't the convenor this year, nor does he have control over the consortium. The fact that he's the one who gave an interview about the decision to LI doesn't necessarily make him the person responsible for it. This is how media build up hype.

Not an interview, Sudhir gave a live YouTube Q&A for CLAT students which LI picked up https://www.legallyindia.com/pre-law-student/clat-consortium-couldn-t-assure-high-integrity-home-proctored-exam-issues-include-bandwidth-connectivity-20200709-11558

Exactly. Sudhir was trolled for saying integrity cannot be guaranteed, hence test centres. Looks like he was proved right, though anyone with half a brain knew that to be true anyway.

Again, how exactly is that any evidence that the credit for the decision should go to him squarely?

No, but since he was the victim of the trolling he can surely be the beneficiary of the gloating

Covid is like a world war. Cancelling 2020 exams and making students drop a year is harsh but unavoidable. Students are of an age group where they can be asymptomatic carriers and infect the elderly.

I'm sorry sir, but i completely disagree. Be Empathetic not Sympathetic. Students who took a drop(2019) are already very much late because of the pandemic. And now, AILET is even further extended. A whole lot of time has already gone. Exam date is not even confirmed, the flow of preparation is all messed up, the time tables n everything now is useless. All the candidates are going through serious mental stress. Students have been waiting for this exam to freakin happen for so long now so that they get the chance to further decide and focus on something else.
This exam has to happen. There's no other relevant point here.
Nd what's the guarantee that each candidate is going to crack the entrance at the very first attempt? Exactly.
And hence, nobody got time and patience to invest 2-3 years on this particular test.
So please, think before you type in and post something online.
Btw, i mistakenly liked your comment. So actually it's 1 like and 2 dislikes.
Gotta keep it fair.

You be worried about your survival and the rest instead of dwelling too much on the exam..

The exam can be scheduled towards the end of the year

It is a sad state of affairs. As somebody not belonging to the legal profession but looking at global issues of education from outside India to see what is going on in India. It seems to me that both in legal education and in higher education, the only thoughtful institution that is providing leadership is Jindal Global University and Jindal Global Law School. Everything they seem to have done is based upon pursuing excellence and providing a world class education. In fact it is sad to read these pages of LI that people are delusion and excited about CLAT and NLS Bangalore and it is VC for taking the decision to go with CBT. It is actually preposterous to think that CLAT can be conducted in this manner. All of us know that it will get postponed. The only option this year in law entrance was LSAT in an AI-Enabled and Home-Proctored. At a time when law schools and universities are chaotically thinking of what do, Jindal has already done everything. In fact, if only NLUs had not been so obstinate and had done what Jindal did in the interests of the students, we would have saved the situation. CLAT, SLAT or AILET don’t understand that that LSAT has a legacy of working well for OVER 70 years since 1948!

Here comes the Jindal PR troll, disguised as a concerned individual. Obviously he does not mention that only 5000-odd students finally ended up giving LSAT for Jindal, less than half of the original applicants, and that the 'proctored system' there was also full of holes, as only those who gave the exam could attest to.

The people who have been giving LSAT since 1948, aren't most of them refusing to wear a mask in the US at present? xD

Just a thought, wouldn't appreciate trolling on this, but would it be sensible to at least scrap CLAT-PG? The NLUs could come together to develop a criteria involving maybe marks (though again, I understand the disparity between 5-yr and 3-yr assessments), an SOP along giving all students a writing assignment which are to be attempted in a time frame. Check those assignments for plagiarism and then evaluate. I know it's not perfect, but in a situation where both the online and offline tests seem improbable, this might actually be the best 'bad option'.
Plus it would reduce the students susceptible to risk.

Evaluating 6-7k assignments with any degree of quality control would take too long. Further, most applicants won't have access to databases to do research, and those who do would have an unfair advantage.
A thought 29 Jul 2020, 09:52

Good points but then, maybe,
1. CLAT Committee could grant access to databases, by creating user ID and passwords for a limited time.
2. I'm not inclined to agree with the evaluation part. Initially they were anyways going to have subjective question as a part of the assessment. Giving a 3k word assignment to 7k students, allotting a set number of teachers (let's say 100) to evaluate the same, would make it 70 students per teachers. One can evaluate 7 essays in a day, 10 days for the teachers to complete evaluation. Add maybe 5 days for miscellaneous things and results would be out in 15 days after the papers. Which should be the case with regular CLAT as well.

There are not 100 qualified teachers across all NLUs. That's the sad truth.

I feel really bad for the current batch of kids who are going through this. I can't help but feel for them. I had a pretty low score in my boards and had to drop a year cause I didn't get a good law school the first time around. Absloutely crushed it in the second attempt. However, I'd be crestfallen if I was in the middle of August and still didn't know the university that I was attending. In comparison, my peers from school would have completed half of their 3 year college degree.

I'm not sure of what creative ways can be used to get out of this situation. If online tests are being taken, may be scrap the GK section in case online tests are being conducted. A google search can get you the right answer. Increase the weightage of Logical Reasoning.

Which peer would have completed half of their first year in colleges? Most of the universities across the country haven't started their session for the freshers yet.

I honestly don't expect even the paper on 22nd to be postponed any further. Delhi is showing positive improvement, so is Maharashtra. Though Covid may be like a world war, but it isn't 1914 or 1945. For the fear we cannot go on cancelling exams or the everyday life. They will conduct exams no matter what. Was nice having a false hope that exams might shift further but bcz of a pandemic that is killing 'elderly' they won't provide shit concessions to us students. Authorities up there simply never sees things from our eyes, had they, we wouldn't have bewn living in SUCH a terrible country. The big businesses are saved, the govt is done.
