The online ‘counselling’ process by which takers of the Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT) select their preferences amongst 11 national law schools has now started with 23 more general seats available than last year.
Despite the moniker ‘counselling’ that was coined initially by the current CLAT committee but stuck, the process would not be an interactive session for CLAT students but merely a marking of preferences online, according to a source with knowledge of the process.
The counselling platform is accessible from www.clatcounselling.in since late evening on Wednesday 8 June, with the launch of the site having been delayed several times due to extensive testing.
The first results of the college allotments are scheduled be announced on 15 June, while the second list will be declared by 22 June.
The choices
This year’s CLAT saw fierce competition amongst over 23,000 students competing for the 893 seats available across all categories that would be filled through CLAT. Three times as many CLAT takers can participate and select preferences through the counselling as the numbers of seats are available in each category.
This year there are 23 more seats available for the all India general category in the law schools compared to last year. While only 613 seats were available for the general category, this year 636 out of the total of 1291 seats are available for general category students.
The increase in the number of available seats was largely because RMLNLU Lucknow and CNLU Patna will include quotas for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe and Persons with Disability (PWDs) within the seats reserved for state domiciled candidates.
The number of general category seats at NUJS and GNLU have decreased by 5 and 3 respectively while the number of seats available at NLIU Bhopal have come down from 35 to 23 due to introduction of reservation for women.
The general seats for RGNUL Patiala, NLU Jodhpur and Nuals Kochi has increased marginally due to change in the pattern of reservations.

I'll admit that I'm a little ignorant about how HNLU and GNLU have fared this year. Find out about all that first. If you're still stuck then consider this.
My sincere advice to you would be to go wherever you think you'll get the sort of life you can handle for 5 years.
Once there, ball's in your court. The way these law schools are, it doesn't matter which one you're at so long as you're at one within the same tier as your best available option. These will be the most amazing 5 years of your life. Choose wisely. The place you're going to be happier is the place you'll be most productive.

PS: Had this been 2006, I'd probably have picked GNLU between the two of them. But we didn't have CLAT then. I just grabbed on to the first Plan-A school I could get into and didn't bother with the rest. Got there, loved it and never looked back.

When it comes to placements, NUJS is way ahead of NALSAR.

what makes you feel you are the best?
when a person gets three job offers, don't show it as three placements...
Go read that story again.
I quote - "75 [students] secured corporate or law firm jobs through the CRC process, with a total of 93 offers having been made."
HNLU has a huge new campus while GNLU's campus is in building process.
Would never do that had it been NLS.
So for me at least the rankings are wrong.
Let's wait and watch where people end up in the long run and then say what we have to.
We need to accept that NLS carries nothing more than a 'tag' with an expiry date. What good is that tag if you will be overtaken by NALSAR & NUJS in (a) mooting (b) recruitment (c) academics, etc.
Do your own background search for the above.
Would you rather go to a languishing brand like NLS or come to a shining brand like NALSAR & NUJS?
NALSAR is better than NUJS because students are more focused. Being away for a city for 5 years is good and helps students get better jobs. It is a trade-off between a happy and partying life (at NUJS) and a life where you make the 5 years worthwhile by getting the better jobs and winning more moots(at NALSAR)?
It took NLS 24 years to reach where it is.. NALSAR & NUJS have reached there in 13 & 12 years.. Think about it!
NUJS has the better faculty (way, way better), better recruitment and better location. Why should anyone go to NALSAR? Because it provides you with a boring, sad life?
Thats the first reason I would never go to NUJS. And kids you are not even in the bracket. Nalsar is way ahead. And I am not a Nalsarian or Nalsarite whatever they call themselves
With a much better faculty and a much better location people know who is in the bracket!
So if you want to go to a law college, study, write research papers etc in the traditional way and then think of becoming a lawyer after 5 years, stick to the Nationals. If you just want a law degree and then do your own stuff (CS, CA or working with a particular lawyer in a particular field of law) go to GLC or any college in a big city like Mumbai or Delhi.

Not a bad choice at all.
And trust me some of the students of GLC that i have met during my internships were quite bright, they could have easily been to any top NLUs but they chose to stay at GLC for certain reason. Besides, life in Mumbai cannot be matched by the one in Bangalore, Hyd or for that matter Kolkata. But, here comes the caution, if u do choose GLC over the top 3 law schools, u better be ready with all your plans for right kind of internships.
To make it simple, I think it would be wise to consider GLC over some of the Nationals, especially if you're in for litigation/solicitor's/conveyancing and other conventional practices. I think Nationals are definitely more conducive to train students for corporate law.
As far as GLC goes, a slightly more dedicated administration could do wonders for the college.
and i can see in the past 20 years of law schools......how many good lawyers and judges they have produced....they only produce partners in firms so do we....so its really not the case......but i still think NLS NALSAR and NUJS are better..
but GLC is among the best in India even with all the problems it is facing
