Clat rank 30: IDIA diversity scholar from Kerala gets into NLSIU

The Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) to legal education initiative has already clinched an NLSIU Bangalore seat this year, with its Kerala scholar Yamuna Menon attaining rank 30 in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2015 results.

CLAT 2015 was the second CLAT attempt for Menon who is the daughter of a rural family from Udayamperoor near Cochin in Kerala. Her first CLAT attempt wasn’t as an IDIA scholar, confirmed IDIA

IDIA founding trustee Shamnad Basheer wrote in an email that Menon is the second IDIA scholar, in IDIA’s five years of operation, to make it to the gates of India’s oldest and top national law school. In 2013 IDIA Mizoram scholar Thangminlal Haokip also made the cut-off for NLSIU and is now in NLS’ second year class.

In 2014 six IDIA scholars made it to various national law schools: two got through NLU Jodhpur, two through NLUO Cuttack and one through to GNLU Gandhinagar. Two scholars made it through to Nirma Institute of Law, Ahmedabad.

Yes, it was Basheer's quote from his email.

The student must have already indicated the preference of NLSIU, as 95% of CLAT toppers do every year ;)

But it is best no? Everyone says, not just Kian.

He only says that we are "Law Schoolites". Shamnad, who has taught at one of the other contenders, says Law School is best.

Hats off IDIA! this is a great initiative and one that will have far reaching consequences. Specially in inspiring students from rural India to take up graduate studies.

Respect to those who have been involved in the process and the students who choose to support such an initiative.

"India’s oldest and top national law school"

So now the real reason comes out as to why Kian is not doing a survey holistically comparing the different law schools (infra, placements, faculty etc).

Are you seriously making a story about something this happy into a Kian bashing story because he ostensibly doesn't like your NLU as much?

I got the IDIA e-mail, and that's a direct quote. Please calm down

read it again. even though it is not in quotes, its in passive. for which you dont need quotes. Also, its clear that SB said so and not KG.

Do who exactly is an IDIA scholar? I mean we know that Shamnad Basheer uses LI as a personal mouthpiece ... But some clarity on this would be nice

I do hope this unnecessary publicity does not make law school life any harder than it should be for this talented young lady..
