Sorting out the CLAT mess could take another week

Results for the 2014 Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT) will only be released within a week, with convenor GNLU Gandhinagar having to manually cross check all 33,491 answer sheets, CLAT committee member and NUJS Kolkata registrar Surajit Mukhopadhyay told the Times of India.

GNLU director Bimal Patel, breaking his long media silence on the debacle to the TOI, placed the blame squarely on the barcode sticker system attached to OMR answer sheets: “The concept of affixing the candidate sticker and the barcode was introduced to evaluate the OMR sheet without revealing candidate’s details. The reconciliation will be done by opening the concealed section containing the candidate sticker and the details filled in by the candidates.”

Too many cooks spoil the broth.When the NLSIU, Benguluru was the only school & when it conducted the examination, no issues absolutely.It is never a smooth affair after that.The flaws are increasing year by year in conducting CLAT examination.Neither less flaws, nor "flaw"less but only full of flaws. Flawless CLAT remains a dream if not an impossible one.It is not the merit but the luck of the candidate will take him/her to the national law school the way the entrance examination & the results are conducted annually.After all who are the losers? Not the institutions but the hard working helpless candidates.

NLSIU conducted the maiden CLAT and it was never that "it was the only school" which conducted the exam. The very existence of CLAT took place at a common understanding of all NLUs that they shall be conducting it every year on a rotation basis as per their seniority and accordingly the revenues generated out of the application process shall be shared. Therefore, please check your facts before commenting.

All the other schools came into existence atleast after a decade of the NLSIU , Bangalore. The maiden CLAT examination as you called it was a very smooth affair. After that it is not. As it has been observed by me.

Think about the money collected as fess for
CLAT = 4000 X 33000 Around 13 Cr .
The maximum expense = 2 Cr .
Profit you can imagine.
