Netflix India director legal Ashish Chandra has joined WhatsApp as associate general counsel (GC) India, making him the messaging giant’s first in-house legal hire in India.

An advocate Gurmeet Singh has sent a legal notice to instant message application WhatsApp asking it to remove the ‘middle finger’ emoticon from its list of emoticons in 15 days while WhatsApp has responded that it wouldn’t alter its emoticon list, reported Live Law.

The Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL urging it to ask the government to seek the private key from WhatsApp and similar applications to access their contents in times of need.

The Supreme Court next Wednesday will hear a petition seeking a ban on WhatsApp on the ground that the messaging platform’s end-to-end encryption gives terrorists a means of communication that is impossible to intercept.
