Calcutta bar will continue boycotting HC room unless judge apologises

“Owing to misbehaviour and insult meted out to advocates for a pretty long time, we took a resolution to abstain and refrain from attending the court of Justice Girish Gupta,” Calcutta high court Bar Association outgoing secretary Rana Mukherjee told PTI about the reason for lawyers have boycotted Gupta’s court for six days running yesterday.

Gupta turned up to court but “retired to his chamber later in the day” after lawyers did not turn up. The bar has demanded an apology.

Kya baat hai yaar! Wish there was similar sort of unity and resolve among other Bar Associations across India. There are a lot of arrogant and whimsical judges out there who need to learn how to extend basic courtesy and respect to the Advocates who appear before them especially the young Junior Advocates. Sincerely hope the judge in question apologizes. It will be unprecedented, I reckon. This sort of high handedness and judicial arrogance is the reason why a lot of Indian Advocates are in favor of getting rid of the Collegium System of appointment and the introduction of the NJAC(despite all its flaws).Peace!

What will happen is that he will get transferred to another High Court
