The Indian Express and others have reported this litigation over the trendy augmented reality mobile game, which requires users to collect virtual pets in the real world:

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday issued notices to state and central governments as well as the developer of location-based augmented reality game “Pokemon Go” on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging that the game hurts religious sentiments of certain communities by showing eggs in places of worship.

The petitioner is represented by lawyer Nachiket Dave, and notice has also been issued to the game’s US developer Niantic Inc.

Of course, Pokemon Go is still not officially launched in India and can only be played by going through some fairly elaborate (and potentially risky) steps.
