Hero P&H high court judge M Jeyapaul dives into lake, saves girl from drowning

PTI reported that:

The incident took place on March 30 when Justice M Jeyapaul, 60, of the Punjab and Haryana High Court dived into the Lake to save the 15-year-old girl after he noticed her drowning while he was on his routine morning walk, Sukhna Lake Police Post In-charge Mini Bhardwaj told PTI today.

The judge’s security officer apparently followed the judge into the lake and together they saved the girl, who had allegedly tried to commit suicide.

It was so difficult to find where the news was! All ad and no news makes LI a dull boy.

Yeah, apologies, we're a bit ad-heavy this month due to the all the law school recruitment ads. Alas we're financially not able to say no to any advertising at the moment, even if admittedly it's slightly OTT right now.

The $100 question though - would you pay for an ad-free LI? If so, how much?

Thanks, that's heartening! :)

Is that Rs 100 per year or per month, btw? :)

you know the answer Kian. We wont pay for NYT and you expect us to pay for LI.

Lol. In that case, you'll have to grin and bear the ads for now, I'm afraid ;)

About Rs.100 a month would be doable without hesitation, as that's how much I pay for my daily paper.. So, it kinda adds up nicely. Anything over that, and you'll get me thinking...

Won't pay for LI Kian. However it is becoming increasingly difficult to browse through the site. Perhaps it time the entire site is redone.

The number of ads is only temporary, for the next month or so, then they'll start decreasing again.

What else is difficult about browsing the site? On mobile or desktop or tablet?

Are you finding it hard to identify the most important stories? Or hard to find content that is interesting to you? Have you tried using the 'preferences' on the homepage to tailor LI's homepage to what's of interest to you?

Any answers to the above by readers would be helpful, then I could get a better idea of what in the design needs improving.

No, I don't suspect the judge will pay for the pleasure of reading LI either ;-)

Lol, nicely done! :)

I don't intend on ever going down the subscription-only route to access content, since I believe there's huge value in content being available for free on the web, but am toying with the idea of:

1. Allowing people to pay for an ad-free LI version, with maybe some other perks coming down the line, or
2. Allowing readers who like LI to basically give us money in a virtual tip jar, sort of like donations but not charitable obviously.

Would anyone go for option 2? And if so, would they contribute more than 1 rupee? :)

Non-charitable donation. You lost me there :)

I believe, unless you're a properly registered charity you can't use the word 'donation' - or at least some lawyers have told me that...

Model would be similar to Newslaundry's - asking for money to support independent journalism, type thing... Obviously we're a for-profit, but those profits are still rather non-existent, which prevents us from hiring more journalists and doing even more investigative and kick-ass stories about the legal industry...

If you think LI is worth supporting, please hit up the following link and send some money our way:
https://www.instamojo.com/legallyindia/legally-india-payment-gateway/

I'll personally send you a nice thank you email, and if there is interest we might roll it out more widely and hopefully be able to reduce our dependence on advertising...

Please do let me know any thoughts or ideas.
