Judge attempts suicide (after 'alleged false allegation' of rape by 'some woman', adds bar association)

Dwarka district court judge PS Malik was hospitalised today after an alleged unsuccessful suicide attempt by overdosing on sleeping pills, after an accusation by a colleague on 20 July that he had raped her repeatedly since January 2016, reported media.

According to the above report in India Today, the Shahadra Bar Association has come out in support of Malik in a statement, calling the complaint ‘false’: “He has been admitted to Hedgewar Hospital. He was in depression due to alleged false allegation of molestation by some woman.”

Could also have been a true rape allegation... His alleged attempted suicide is certainly not the strongest indication of innocence possible...

I agree, even a guilty rapist may attempt suicide when caught or in the face of a true accusation. But I must say this at the risk of sounding like an insensitive chauvinist- whenever I read about "repeated rape", I wonder how the rape was "repeated" again and again over a few months. It is also relevant that many women have consensual sex but later term it rape and even file false cases. According to the Delhi Commission for Women, more than 50% rape cases before it in 2013-14 were false: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/indianews/article-2781534/Women-s-panel-claims-HALF-rape-cases-registered-past-year-false-allegations.html

Any respectable person will definitely think of suicide after being accused for such a henious allegation. Kindly remember, not every act of sexual intercourse is rape.

In the title the placement of the words "by some woman" suggests the judge was allegedely raped. not to make light of the issue and in particular one must remind oneself everytime one reads rape reports that it takes courage to file a rape complaint given the shame associated with it. earlier a law student had reported a misbehaving judge.a lot of this was simply not heard of even 7-10 years ago so it is good to see the stigma fading away.
