Letter by Gopal Subramanium to Sibal denied 2G scam dirt allegations: Did not \"interact with any lawyer\"

Former solicitor general (SG) Gopal Subramanium had written a letter to former law minister Kapil Sibal during the 2G scam, denying allegations of having “interacted with any lawyer” – allegations on the basis of which the new government has tried to veto his name for elevation to the SC as judge, reported the Express.

Subramanium wrote the five-page letter on 21 July 2011, a week after he resigned as SG, stating: “As far as 2G case goes, I was shocked to see that the extent of criminality wasn’t revealed to me by the government on its own. I have been hurt by the kind of media reports which have appeared about me. I just wish to put it on record for you that I never ever interacted with any lawyer in the case.”

If the intelligence agencies had lost faith in Gopal, then why did they continue to instruct him in high profile matters, even after his resignation from SG-ship? There seems to be a lot more to this... Dhananjay Mahapatra of the TOI has very evidently left no stone unturned to play up the issue (like all his other adverse news reports on Gopal) and tarnish Gopal's name.

Mr. Gopal is a genius. The Bench require legal luminaries like GS and not lameducks from lower judiciary.
