Police uses still-jailed Janhavi Gadkar crash for marketing, complains her lawyer Mahesh Sabnis

The Indian Express reported that 44 days after her arrest, while still in jail without bail and the court expected to give its order on 24 July:

Arguing for lawyer Janhavi Gadkar to be released on bail, her advocate said that the traffic authorities were maligning the law fraternity by putting up posters which show two cars colliding and depict a lawyer’s white collar with a caption “No one is above the law, not even the law”.

Her advocate added that there was no reason to “tamper” with evidence, if Gadkar was released. “Their investigation is all over. What is there to tamper with? They should and they must’ve taken adequate precaution. There is no allegation that I have tried to influence the police or tampered with evidence until now and there is no material to corroborate such allegations,” Gadkar’s lawyer Mahesh Sabnis argued.

You deliberately got drunk, then deliberately decided to drive your car (even boasting to your friends that you've done it before), and then were drunk enough to drive on the wrong side of the road (at presumably high enough speeds to kill), and then to actually strike your car leading to two people being dead (including the only bread-earning father of a family that was simply out to celebrate their son's graduation from high school, and the poor taxi driver)....

And, so, the police took the liberty to let the world know that they don't tolerate this BS, and the courts showed no urgency in granting you bail.. Sorry, but were you really expecting a sympathy wave from the public? I truly hope you rot in hell.. Best regards, Unsympathetic and heartless :) Cheers...

It is interesting that Desai, who got bail for Salman in 15 minutes, is unable to secure bail for Gadkar even after 45 days.
Is it money power, or star power that works?

Not pushing jack, just reporting...

It does seem rather unprofessional for the cops to basically do their marketing (and also, granted, fight drink driving) via this case though, particularly as the trial is still ongoing...

That said, I have no time for counsel's argument that this is maligning the legal profession, who can generally take care of themselves just fine, I'd have thoughts...
