CBI jails SC registry officials for seeking early-listing bribe from Anuradha Saha husband

The US NRI widower who won a Rs 6 crore medical negligence in October, yesterday won in a special CBI court that convicted two ex-Supreme Court registry officials of corruption.

The US NRI widower who won a Rs 6 crore compensation battle in October at the apex court for medical negligence that caused the death of his wife, Anuradha Saha, has yesterday won in a special CBI court that convicted two ex-Supreme Court registry officials of corruption.

The two officials, C Perumal and Kudallur Srinivas Badrinatham, have been sentenced to two and three years in jail respectively, reported the Times of India.

CBI judge Dinesh Kumar Sharma convicted the registry staff for demanding a Rs 75,000 bribe from Dr Kunal Saha to list his case early for a final hearing and threatened him that non-payment would result in a delayed hearing.

Sharma said: “There cannot be duality of opinion that corrupt practices adopted by officials of the court tarnish image of the judicial system as such… The cancer of corruption is more dangerous to judicial system, which is the only institution in which a common man has still certain amount of faith. The instances like present one give serious jolt to the faith of litigants in the judicial system… The convicts before this court being the employees of the highest court of this land, deserves appropriate punishment.”

This is very big story and I cannot understand why the media is not giving it the attention it deserves. It is well known that this is commonplace and many lawyers/law firms are involved in this scam. Please chase this story and expose these lawyers. Hats off to Dr Saha.

Kian you have given a lot of coverage to the Justice Ganguly controversy (rightfully) and it is because of you that papers like TOI are giving it headline coverage on the front page. I would now request you to follow up on this story. Maybe you can tie up with a news channel and do a sting, or maybe approach Prashant Bhushan and AAP. The country needs to know this.
