The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), on 24 September, proposed six amendments to its rules and allowed temporary SCBA members with proximity cards to gain 60 entries to the Supreme Court’s high security zone.

The association proposed to:

1. impose restrictions on the number of times a member can hold posts in it and on whether a member who lost elections can contest again
2. increase the term of its executive committee to two years from the current one year from the next election onwards
3. enhance the security deposit to be paid by a member while filing election nomination forms
4. enhance the number of members required to consent in writing to call a meeting of the SCBA to 250 members from the current 150

The SCBA, in its meeting on 14 October, by a two-third majority passed the proposed amendment to restrict the number of times a member can hold an SCBA post. It was resolved “that no member of the Bar shall be eligible to hold any post for more than 4 years in his/her life time”.

The SCBA also scheduled its next general election for 17 December.
