Sr Adv Pinky Anand appointed ASG in SC

Senior advocate and BJP spokesperson Pinky Anand was appointed Additional Solicitor General (ASG) in the Supreme Court and she assumed office yesterday, reported The Hindu.

The former Additional Advocate General of Uttarakhand is only the second woman ever to be appointed ASG. The first – Indira Jaising – demitted office after change of government in May.

Bar Council Member S Prabhakaran, senior advocates NR Chandran, G Rajagopalan and former Karnataka Advocate-General Uday Holla are meanwhile contenders for two posts of Additional Advocate General to the Madras high court.

Six senior advocates were appointed ASG in the Supreme Court on 7 June: L Nageswara Rao, Paramjit Patwalia, Maninder Singh, Tushar Mehta, Neeraj Kishan Kaul and PS Narsimha.

this is hilarious. it is quite clear that the post of asg (At least in this case) has been given out as a sop for party loyalty as compared to real merit. i just hope the new asg realizes that one cannot randomly quote news articles in the sc and get away with it.

btw to all readers, pinky anand has appeared in only 11 judgments in the supreme court. (qualification seems lacking)

It has to be read as Additional Solicitor General for Southern India for which the office is based out of Madras

Well people will speak what they feel but congratulations ma'am - it's a huge thing to be only the second lady ASG and very well deserved.
