With the kind of work experience and qualification, definitely you will not start at the bottom. However, the qualification not being from an Indian University, you may not get the actual experience of Court litigation. You may be assigned some office or consultation job in which your qualification & experience could help your employer.

If you are keen on practice in Indian courts, better do LL.B. from India.

I am facing a similar situation as the Salmonella, although I have the requisite indian qualifications. I have about 4 yrs PQE but mostly in legal research. I want to work in a law firm and wonder if my experience would be relevant.

Hi SP,

In my view, it will depend on how you present your experience to the firms. You might be pegged against 2 or 3 yrs PQE but if you have a solid brand on your CV and are otherwise strong in your understanding and application of law then negotiate very hard. Perhaps, you can bargain for an appraisal after 6 months, (but keep in mind that most top tier firms wouldn’t want to change their rules for an individual).

The law firms are actively hiring these days, so this is the best time to jump ship if you want to do some transactional work now.
