job prospects
6 Mar 2012, 07:52
I am a FIRST year student in the B.A.LLB course,in a not so good law school.
i am very worried for my future as i dont see my college providing campus placements.
In the coming five years, however, ill b doing whatever it takes to improve my cv so that i can stand well above the rest, but still i wish to know, what are the job prospects for the non-elite law schools students?
Are they even considered for jobs in reputed law firms..???
Are there even enough vacancies present in the coming years..???
Please help me out through this.Guide me.

It’s not much of an issue if u did not land up in a Tier 1 law school. There will always be a job for one who is hard working and bright. Law as a profession would only become better with each passing year. In my opinion the following things should make u successful:
1. ACADEMICS- Be very good at studies, score over 65 per cent each semester if possible. More importantly, understand rather than mugging up. In future when u appear for interview, it’s your in depth knowledge and understanding of law that counts.
2. INTERNSHIPS- Intern as much as possible and at gud law firms or with gud counsels. Not just mail ur resumes but also call up the firm, only then u get through gud firms.
3. PUBLICATIONS- Very important. If u have flair for writing then it must be great for you. In any case, write up articles, choose topics about which not much has been written, do proper research and get it published..helps a hell lot man.
4. Moot Courts- It’s good to be a part of moot team in college. Enhances your knowledge and looks good on ur resume specially if you have won something.
Besides, have fun, study well..don bother if u did not make it to a very gud college..I have seen people from mediocre college making it to decent firms and organisations..
even i am facing the same situation :(
sometimes i really feel very devastated.my parents in govt. service,i dont have a law background,
+ inspite of putting tremendous hard work for CLAT,i couldnt land up in a national law school.
deep inside i have immense passion n zeal for law, this is one thjing that i really really love, but due to this college thing,i feel very much depressed, feel like a wanderer with no way 2 go for.
really a worse kind of situation.:’(
Besides the things I have mentioned above in 2nd comment, I would also add that if anyone is not satified with the law school and is in first year, take up CLAT again. Who knows if u are gud enuf, u might get thru NLS, NALSAR or NUJS. Altho you wud be losing out on a year and money but it is a sensible decision because u will end up doing really well for yourself. Chances are that when you pass out of a mediocre institute, u might not get into a top law firm. But if u make it to top law schools, there is a high probability that you would get placed at a gud firm/company and a gr8 package..so think and act. ALL THE BEST young fellas
