JOBS at Law Firm

Hi

I am relatively new here so need some help with how to go about the jobs at the so called law firms.

I being a final year law grad from a non- national law school is like all others caught into the trap of zero campus placements at the college this year.(with the handful already lost to the national moot court guys)

Now the second option are the job sites which strangely don’t boost of Law Firms for sure!

So my query is how do you actually go about finding a vacancy in these firms.

Its like you keep forwarding your CV here and keep following up through calls!!

or is the age old rule of yaha sirf reference chalti hai working here !!

Ok…that was meant to be in a lighter vein…(I had a hearty laugh at your expense, but I am sure you didn’t mind too much). On a serious note- the best option, I guess for you is to seek an internship opportunity with some law firm for at least 2 months. This is probably the only way you can showcase your talent.

I have personally seen non-national law school-ites slog it out in firms like JSA after/during their 5th year for 4 to 6 months before occasionally succeeding in digging that elusive offer.

Don’t fool yourself by sending applications directly seeking a job. Unless you have good contacts or you are applying through the recruitment co-ordination committee( RCC) of your college, these applications are not even looked at.

heyy there.. i completely relate to you.. because i come from the same background.. I’ll be in my final year now.. I’ve been interning all this while in various firms.I’ve been told the same that interning in firms help. Now how much of it helps that time will say. But definitely apply as an intern first and get the hang of it.

I can co-relate as I am also from the traditional University. Yes definitely internship with big firms is a good thing to start with. But somehow I feel in these big firms one will learn nothing expect briefing the senior counsel and drafting. That too limited as these big firms mainly does Supreme Court matters. Hence all the stages are over.

In short its best to start with a mid sized firm or a lawyer mid- experience lawyer, (say around 10-15 yrs..) There the scope is good as one will get chance to appear in court and other Tribunals.
