NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad under the aegis of the Centre for Legal Philosophy and Justice Education, and in association with Lovely Autos, Punjab and Vijai Electricals Ltd., is proud to host the second edition of the NALSAR Film Festival, 2014 on 22nd and 23rd of March at our campus in Shamirpet.

The NALSAR Film Festival was conceptualized keeping in mind the need to create meaningful dialogue between socially committed artists, intellectuals and the student community throughout disciplines, in order to deconstruct India’s complex socio-political realities. The first edition of the NALSAR Film Festival was a grand success with screenings of films such as Jashn-e-Azadi and All About Our Famila engendering discussion on pressing social issues, as students interacted with the directors of the films. This year’s festival is centered around the recognition of diverse, oft unheard voices; we are thus screening films like Nisha Pahuja’s Canadian documentary film, The World Before Her, and Deepa Dhanraj’s Kya Hua Is Shahar Ko, which deviate from conventional standpoints and are thought provoking in respect of the subject matter of their focus.

The NALSAR Film Festival shall bring together independent award winning directors such as Deepa Dhanraj and Paromita Vohra, editor Saikat Ray, and translator Rajani Ratnaparkhi to screen their work at NALSAR and followed by panel discussions with academicians and practitioners related to the issues raised. The NALSAR Film Festival aims to see an eclectic mix of students across disciplines, interacting with directors in order to query social justice concerns and understand the myriad perspectives that exist surrounding a particular issue.
