Most Definitely SLS pune is better.

Placement-wise and also, with their new Vimaan Nagar Campus, SLS is much better than Christ

as for the crowd, both are equal i guess, but being a Pune resident i can vouch for the SlS crowd.

Planning to join a law college in 2015, i have dropped a year to study for CLAT.

Other entrances i’m giving are SET, CHRIST Law School, AILET.

Where would one rank SLS in terms of placements and generally?

My prefered order right now is

1) NLSIU

2)NALSAR

3)NUJS

4)NLUD

5)SLS

6)NLIU

7)GNLU

8)CHRIST

College life, placements and crowd are criteria here.

Also i have heard that NLU-D has a strict curfew time of 9;30 pm, which is quite disappointing.

I’ll be passing 12th this year and i understand your dilemma..see, my pecking order would be-

1.NLS

2.NALSAR

3.NUJS

4.NLU-D

5.NLU-J

6.NLIU

This is my choice of NLU’s in descending order, the criteria being placements, as a considerable number of their students end up being placed in tier-1 law firms. Jindal is also good placement, infrastructure and faculty wise(even better than most of the NLU’s) but I’m ruling it out as it isn’t cost effective.(35 lacs for god’s sake!). If you can afford it then go for it.

It is after these colleges that I’m not sure about, as to, how to rate symbi and christ. I’ve heard they both have a great crowd and campuses and unlike some NLU’s, they’re in the city if not very nearby. My last choice would bebArmy Institute of Law, Mohali, as I’ve heard that the placements are decent and being from an army background, I’ll have a quota.

P.S- 9:30 p.m is a delight as the curfews for other colleges are way earlier. NALSAR, for instance, has a curfew time of 7 p.m..

Oh wait…you meant the hostel curfew..its almost the same for both..my bad :3

There are many scholarships too. Many students from Haryana (or the LSAT-India toppers) are studying at a 100% fees waiver.

But getting a 100% scholarship isn’t a piece of cake and Jindal won’t prove economical for me unless i get a 50% scholarship, as I don’t want to put the burden of a loan on my dad, especially since top-6 NLU’s provide same recruitment figures at the fraction of the fees. And people, please give your opinions on what the topic originally was! CHRIST VS. SYMBIOSIS!

I agree with the top 4, but I really don’t want to live in/close to cities like Jodhpur and Bhopal. It’s a 5 year course we’re considering and i don’t fancy spending half a decade in some remote location. No doubt, the degree will obviously be of much value compared to the likes of Symbi and Christ, but for me, college life, crowd and stuff like that matters too. (Excuse the snobbish attitude) So law schools based in major cities would be my first choice.

And i feel that any college within the top 10 is good, it all depends on your internships, and competence as a legal professional. And the days where public institutes were better than all private ones have gone. For eg- Jindal and SLS.

I can’t afford Jindal either so i feel Symbi will be really good.

Even I think Symbiosis would be better than Christ, however, only the Pune campus. I don’t think Noida and Hyderabad branches are that good as compared to Christ, even though Noida seems to be catching up. Its the brandname that comes into play here. Also, if you aren’t in a top-6 NLU then getting a degree from a college based in a metropolitan city would be more beneficial as it is in these cities where law firms lie, hence so do internships. The market is better than before now, as indicated by this year’s recruitment figures and internships play a crucial role in getting a job. Anyway, my final conclusion would be:

1. NLSIU

2. NALSAR

3. NUJS

4. NLU-D

5. NLIU

6. NLU-J

7. SYMBIOSIS, Pune

8. CHRIST, Bangalore

9. AIL, Mohali(as i’ll get preference and recruitment is decent)

10. NLU-M(Maybe? Not sure as it will be its debut year, but things panned out right for NLUD and being in Mumbai, you know the kind of exposure its grads will get.)
