Job Prospects after doing LLM from UK

Hi All,

I am an Indian Advocate practicing in Delhi Courts since last 6 years. This year I applied for LLM and got positive response from two universities-

1) NUS, Singapore(Corporate and financial services Laws) and

2) Warwick university(LLM in Corporate Governance and financial regulation)

I want to explore international job markets after completing LLM. As international markets are flooded with qualified lawyers, it is important to choose wisely.

First of all, I would like you to advise me which one to go for-NUS OR

WARWICK?

Please advise me about the job opportunities for Indians, available in UK law firms or Corporates in UK after doing LLM in Corporate Governance..

Another question that i have in mind is—Will it be possible to grab a job in US after graduating from NUS.

Confused!!

Please advise.

LLM after 6 years of practice… I would suggest against it if you intend to come back to India and practice at the Delhi High Court..

If you’re looking to make a transition and / or look at foreign firms.. I think you might be over-qualified on the experience front to join as a trainee (what you usually get recruited as after LLMs).. I’m curious to know more about this as well, so please do post a reply with whatever you finally decide / find out..

Till date I have worked on civil side, that too in litigation. Now I want to work as a legal advisor in a company. That is why This move..

Also I want to work in international firms— either US, UK or Singapore.

Advice needed.

Why do you think I will be over qualified for working in cos.??

I know many lawyers who went to do LLM after 6-7 years of practice and ended up with good positions in the law firms both at UK and Singapore.

Kindly explain if you think I am wrong somewhere…

If you want to work in a Company then an LLM would be completely unnecessary. If you just want to go and see the world and you have the dough then it is a different matter altogether.

For a Company job, the C.S. Course would be a good option. But if you want to be a litigation advisor then even that isnt necessary…

Many of my acquaintances have done LLM abroad and after coming back are still not getting jobs… Getting admission in a good LLM is not the achievement but landing a great job after that is…
