Indias Legal Landscape?

I am in the US and trying to gain a better understanding of India’s legal landscape. I have read there are around 600k attorneys in India, but how many of those are small firm or solo practicing lawyers? What does that market look like?

Most lawyers are independent advocates, I would estimate around 10,000-20,000 or so work in law firms with more than 5 lawyers, while maybe 10% are sole practitioners.

Those are complete guesstimates though and the regulator has no idea…

Thanks for the information! I’m doing a report on Indias legal landscape and it’s been more difficult to research than anticipated. Do attorneys advertise themselves or is it done through firms? Here in America solo and small firms spend a lot of money on advertising and I was curious if it was similar in India.

Any help is very much appreciated!
