In an unprecedented and overnight development the three top Indian law schools have decided to join hands to form an Ivy League of sorts in the Indian Law School fraternity.

Yesterday the Commanders-in-Chief of NLS, NALSAR and WBNUJS signed an MOU for furthering the cause of legal education, sharing of resources (faculty and infrastructure) and promoting bonhomie among the three student fraternities at these top law schools.

This initiative was lauded by the powers-that-be sitting in Delhi and ‘credible sources’ inform us that this was due to the nudge received from these quarters.

Modalities are being worked out as to how the ‘sharing and caring’ will go on between the three law schools. To this end a legal consultancy was appointed to share their expertise in the said matter. However in a sudden turn of events a group of very proactive students from one of these colleges has filed an RTI wanting to know the procedure of the appointment of this consultant. Cloud-maker is the said consultant.

The reporters’ in-depth analysis about the situation tells us that this was effected due to the law school war being fought out by these three law schools. Certain bloggers on a very popular website had suggested that their law school is the best and given rankings for other law schools. They were very erudite people who had the locus to judge every other law school and this fuelled a feud between these three law schools with people taking cudgels on one side or the other after tossing a coin and deciding which one of the jarring factions they should sell their loyalties to.

This move shall, however, greatly profit the legal fraternity. Detractors of the top law schools say that this effort is as a result of new kids who have rented out flats in the same posh area where these law schools are situated.

Our interview with an insider revealed, “It was on the anvil for quite a while. There are various things that we can share in. For example, a particular law school claims that it starts up very often and thus it has been decided that they would provide the other two with spark plugs.”

We went to one of these campuses to interview students and one such student on being informed of the news yawned and said to the person sitting next to him, “Pass me another joint.”

We shall be back with more news.

I never understood what's the problem with one law school being the best? I graduated 10 years ago and still find my law school being best in everything worse.

Seems the best lawschools will keep gaining prestige (nothing wrong in this excellent idea) and the new ones will continue to languish (which means legal education and its advancement would not have a far reaching social effect. Makes one sad to think that the new lawschools are often doomed from the start. NLS Delhi has made a good decision by not taking part in the CLAT as in that case, they would have gotten students from lower in the list.

Dude the NLS-Nalsar-NUJS ivy league trio is a myth. Ask any student beyond the third year, they'll tell you all law schools (especially the student quality) are almost the same. The ONLY difference it might possibly make is in the job scene. That's it.

Now this is good subtle humour. A much required change from the unceasing wannabe lawyer catfights reflecting nothing but insecurity about their law school.
