IMO this single line by Justice Thommen sums up the issue:
"What the Constitution permits is the adoption of suitable and appropriate measures to correct the continuing evil effects of prior discrimination. Over-inclusiveness in such measures by unduly widening the net of reservation to unjustifiably protect the ill deserved at the expense of the others would result in invidious discrimination offending the Constitutional objective. "

So we really need to ask ourselves if the truly deserving receive reservation.
The other question is of merit. Is it justified to admit medical students, who will be conducting life-saving operations, with low marks in the entrance tests?

But let’s look at it objectively. The proliferation of quotas in NLUs, along with the popularity of CLAT outside metro cities, has resulted in a large chunk of NLU students (possibly the majority) hailing from non-elite schools and family backgrounds, with weak communication skills in English. In fact, even Sudhir hinted at this in an interview with Bar & Bench, where he said that NLSIU had a very different demographic composition during his time. In other words, someone like a Sudhir or an Akshay Jaitley or an Ashwath Rau or a Vikramjit Banerjee or a Gopal Shankarnarayan may have been be unable to crack even a top 10 NLU today and be forced to go to Jindal, or to NUJS/GNLU as an NRI quota admit. Indeed, you will see many children of NLSIU alumni at Jindal today. Law firms would rather hire a Jindal grad educated at a reputed school, and with superior communication skills in English, over an NLU grad from a modest background.
Finally, another point for you guys to think about: have you asked yourselves how many NUJS NRI quota students make it to T1 firms? The answer is a lot. So why bash only Jindal?

For some context, I am a fresh graduate from a good private college and was recently desparately looking for a job in IPR.
Got shortlisted for an interview with a relatively famous IP firm and the nightmare began. There were supposed to be two rounds: 1 GD and 1 interview with the partner. Cleared GD and then gave the interview with the partner and was asked to wait for further communication from the firm. Well, after waiting for two weeks, was told there would a 3rd round with the Managing Partner, and then ghosted for the next TWO MONTHS!! Not even an email of rejection until I called them multiple times asking about it. So, to summarize it, the whole thing was a waste of my time, energy and was mentally tasking when I was borderline facing Job-hunt depression. Found the whole thing very unprofessional and disrespectful:/
