We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.

1. Certainty of payment. You'd be surprised how many counsels (even the most eminent ones) have to chase AORs/clients for payment. With their trusted AORs, payment is guaranteed.
2. Trust and accuracy. Recently, a plaintiff rep'd by one of the top SCs in Bombay was saddled with 50 lakh costs for suppression of facts. It was a major embarrassment for said senior. He told me that unless he had a briefing attorney like me, or he himself personally had verified all facts, he would henceforth not settle any pleadings or argue matters. Doubt he will stick by this though - his practice is far too lucrative, but, you get my drift. With trusted AORs, the SCs can blindly take their word for the truth because they know the immense amount of hard work and effort the AOR has put in to unearth facts and research the law. Since the relationship b/w the SC-AOR transcends the mere brief.
3. Joie de vivre. Many people don't get this. But ultimately, people, especially highly intelligent ones, want to be around others whom they like, whom they consider intellectual equals, and, who are dynamic, fun and stimulating. One cannot thrive in this profession if you do not have fun while you work. Highly intelligent folk find many people plain drab and plain boring.
This profession is full of assholes and the system rewards such people sadly. You can just focus on your work and keep applying.
Also most of these God complex lawyers have a shitty personal life from what I have observed, so them showing their superiority at work is just a compensation and it's problematic.
HRs act like theyโre doing you a personal favour by letting you speak for 10 minutes.
Then come the interviews with SAs and partners. They expect A2-level candidates to know SA-level knowledge. They ask questions from transactions youโve never even been exposed to because your firmโs practice is different, and then smirk when you falter. They laugh when you get something wrong. Itโs like the goal is not to evaluate you, itโs to humiliate you. Apparently having gone to a tier-1 college means nothing. Apparently answering almost everything correctly still means nothing. Because ultimately it comes down to some random internal bias, whether you โlookโ like their type, whether youโve done the exact type of deal they want to hear.I have been asked if I am a first gen lawyer in each interview I have given. Itโs like a class test disguised as small talk. If you donโt have a family full of lawyers youโre automatically treated as lesser. Nobody comes in knowing 50 categories of deals. But if you havenโt done the exact kind of transaction they want, suddenly youโre โnot readyโ. As if any of them knew everything when they were juniors.
The whole process just feels dehumanising.
Thatโs it. I just needed to say this somewhere. I have one year of experience man, what the fuck are you expecting from me?
I voted for the BJP precisely to avoid inflation like this. Hasnโt America sanctioned India for buying โcheapโ fuel from Russia? If thatโs trueโif India is indeed importing discounted oilโthen why are Indians still paying so much at the pump?
Hardworking, low key and minting tons of money.
So is this a really important facet of legal practice these days?
Why can't the SJA raise the demand directly with univ admin? Why is the current brass bending backwards to cosy up with the new admin as well ?
And some regime friendly judges even get promoted or cushy sinecure post retirement.
So, an SA might touch 1 LPM (barely).
That said, its a good firm with very nice people and good work. I am sure it will shoot up to being one of the better firms.
All work is cyclical, crunch time cannot be 365 days a year.
A Tier-1 partner with children typically earns between โน60 lakh and โน1.5 crore a year. Spending โน15 lakh on a childโs birthday on that income isnโt โlavishโ โ itโs arithmetically unwell. Even if you generously double the income, it still requires either heroic financial illiteracy or inherited money doing the heavy lifting.
Yes, some partners come from serious wealth. Homes bought by parents, luxury cars, the full starter pack. That cohort has existed long enough to now be equity partners. And even they understand the concept of proportion.
The findings, based on 13 years of All-India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) data, challenge widely circulated claims about โupper-caste dominanceโ in the sector.
CasteFilesโ analysis of the same dataset, cited in the report, found that SC/ST/OBC students constitute 62.2 per cent of enrolment in government institutions and 60 per cent in private institutions, indicating that the demographic shift is widespread across states and disciplines.
The report further states that General Category students show a year-on-year decline in absolute enrolment and increasingly face competition from SC/ST/OBC students entering general (non-quota) seats on merit.

Relax babe!
What is striking, however, is that neither sideโmost notably, the Indian delegationโhas, thus far, presented any verifiable material before the media to substantiate its respective claims. In a situation of this nature, the absence of evidence inevitably weakens all asserted certainties.
Speaking only for myself, while I remain broadly inclined to accept the position articulated by the Indian delegates, their continued inability to produce even minimal supporting documentationโwhether before the media or through something as simple as a tweet (which they have repeatedly suggested exists)โdoes introduce a degree of uncertainty as to where the factual truth ultimately resides.
I must also acknowledge a further hesitation: that any public request from my end for these alleged emails to be disclosed would almost certainly invite attacks from a certain section branding such a demand as โanti-national,โ even as the delegates themselves would likely retreat to a moral high groundโeloquently arguing that they do not wish to confer further attention upon an event conceived for the benefit of โyoungstersโ or โchildren,โ precisely in order to avoid the detailed public engagement that this issue, in fact, warrants.
Does delhi gurgaon have less m&a work compared to delhi? What do PAs and partners in Delhi do then? Advisory and structuring?
So i am Final year Law student, currently interning in one of the firms that is quite good, and i am interning with them for the second time, the firm primarily deals with IDT matters, but as i am nearing my graduation i am really confused as to should i continue with them, honestly i am keeping them as as my second option.
so for me i really want to get a job at ELP, LKS or Vaish, but the fact that i am left with only 4-5 months with my graduation i dont feel like i should intern with them as i am in a very final stage where i should really start with my job hunt!

1) (for late nights of working for female associate): Why're you worried about your safety while going back at 11 by rickshaw? This is not Gaza, it's a "safe" locality.
2) (to associates pulling continuous 9-12 days): What's your contribution to this firm?
3) Can you book my hair cutting appointment at this fancy barber, he's too busy always. Figure it out.
4) Can you run over to DefCol Market and grab these things? (vegetables and groceries)
Not far from them were their SAs who made associates do whatever personal work they deemed fit (writing LLM applications, LoRs because they apparently had "better drafting") then threw them under the bus in front of the partner when billable were discussed.
So glad I left.
Most of their juniors are lawyers who themselves have juniors working with them.
