For now, because honesty about comp is important, some responses:

- Fixed Pay: We have done a benchmarking for Tier 1 scales based on information from a third-party executive search firm. This firm was chosen by the consensus of our fee earners (excluding me). It has shared ballparks for every year of PQE. We calculate our fixed as the average of this ballpark as reduced by 20%.
- Variable Pay: The variable is intended to bring the team up to Tier 1 scales. Therefore, variable benchmarks are equal to Tier 1 benchmarks + the 20% discount to fixed, subject to individual and team performance. This is a WIP and we are still young, but last year, the best performers made more than their Tier 1 colleagues.
- A0s: We do not benchmark for A0s, for two reasons: a) We are a specialist boutique and looking for people who are a good fit for the work we do. A0s usually need some time before they are able to add value; b) There is a signaling value to A0 compensation which we don't want to participate in. If compensation is the primary driving factor (to an extent that we are discussing Which Tier 1 to peg pay to, amongst a group of highly paying Tier 1s), then it's a culture mismatch i.e. we are not the right firm for you. For the same reasons, we will not put up numbers on a public platform, but we are happy to publicly share the method of calculation. This is our commitment to transparency, but is also intended to give you a sense of whether you're likely to be financially comfortable with us, because money is important. Hi, I am a fourth year student at a private law university in Central India and want to secretly complain about my college to BCI because the management is poor, highly corrupted and deliberately fail some students to make extra money. Even heard them speaking about this that this time they have failed less students. Everything is a mess. It's so bad I can even type so much. Kindly suggest some ways where I can reach out to bar council by being anonymous since they will make my life miserable if my identity gets revealed. We have had enough, fees is exorbitant and we don't even get SCC and manupatra as they say they can't afford. NLUs folks, have a remarkably giant chip on their shoulders when they meet people who don't care they went to NLUs. The reactions are very telling. Stop making college your identity.

What problem did you solve? That is your selling point and calling card as a lawyer. In litigation or corporate law. Not a few letters adorned next to your linkedin profile or CV.

Unfortunately some people are treating these letters as a salesman would, leveraging it for credibility. That doesn't go so far as you people tend to think.

Focus on problems of the law. Work on it long enough. You start building credibility. Otherwise you're just another lawyer, like any other lawyer from a college you openly disrespect.

This post honestly comes across less like a critique and more like a flex, a way to signal, “I’ve read Dworkin and used Westlaw, therefore I’m more qualified than half the judiciary.” It's unfortunate and honestly quite telling that a personal anecdote by the Chief Justice, meant to highlight access gap in legal education and celebrate the diversity of pathways into the profession has been twisted into an elitist rant against those very ideals.

The idea that someone is unfit to be a judge because they didn’t attend an NLU, or never accessed Lexis/HeinOnline, is not only intellectually narrow but classist in the extreme. By that logic, the overwhelming majority of India’s legal professionals and even some of its most brilliant judges would be deemed unworthy. That’s not just elitist… it’s detached from the lived realities of legal education in India.

Law is not about how many Western academic articles you can cite or how many international moot courts you’ve attended. It’s about applying legal reasoning, understanding human context, interpreting the law justly, guess what, sometimes grinding through bare acts because that’s what people’s lives and liberties hinge on.

The CJI didn’t “diss” NLUs. he simply pointed out a truth that legal talent exists beyond elite bubbles. It’s your job as NLU students or alumni to push academic excellence without sneering at those who came up through different routes. Yes, NLUs have brought in much-needed rigor. But no, they’re not the only metric of legal ability. And acting like they are just reinforces the exact kind of ivory-tower arrogance that makes legal education so alienating for the rest of the country.

Not denying nepotism in legal field but how many of your relatives would actually do such favours for you? In fact, most would try to sabotage your success or keep you down, if they manage to climb up. You are completely discrediting the class 12th distinction, MSC Gold Medal and 60 % (back then was a good score). Performing good at 3 very different stages of education definitely shows that he had ben working hard, consistently.

Just want to know if there’s anything else wrong with Nayantara’s team apart from the long hours? In my opinion, you can expect long hours with a tier 1 firm paying you on the upper end of the tier 1 pay scale. But genuinely curious as to why soo many downvotes for her and the team.

In an interview to the press, jindal kids have claimed that no body in college pays attention to their complaints and therefore they are forced to go to the social media. They are made to run from one department to another and the registrar doesn’t intervene!

I always advise to clients that you must have faith on your advocates to get you the best outcome - I am sure your lawyer would have had the best of intentions for you while he would have been dealing your case.

In any case, if you feel otherwise, I would recommend that you first understand the quantum which is at stake. If it is in lakhs/crores, engage a senior advocate. Their fees are exorbitant, but they are the most effective at securing relief for their client. Your current advocate can help you with that. If the quantum isn't that much, just look for similar cases on Indian Kanoon - be specific to the forum - and you will find those lawyers who have been able to secure relief in cases similar to yours. You can always approach them. All the best!

A friend of mine (who is a non-law student) is considering joining the MBA program at MNLU Mumbai (2-year course). Since doing an MBA at an NLU is a bit unusual, we are trying to gather as much information as possible. I would really appreciate it if any MNLU Mumbai students, alumni, or anyone who knows someone in the MBA program could help by answering any of the following questions (reply to whichever you have knowledge about):

1. How is the overall faculty for the BBA/MBA program?

2. Is it advisable to pursue an MBA from MNLU Mumbai, or should one consider other institutes instead?
3. For students in the BBA LLB program at MNLU Mumbai – how are your BBA professors?
4. Do the BBA faculty members (especially in Economics, Business Studies, and Financial Accounting) teach well and have good subject knowledge?
5. How many batches have graduated from the MBA program so far?
6. Does anyone personally know a student from the MBA program, and if yes, are they satisfied with the course and teaching?
7. Any other suggestions or advice for a non-law student planning to pursue an MBA from an NLU?

No information yet, but assumption would be no, a partner from another firm or trilegal itself is moving to chennai to set up a firm, Apart from TK Bhaskar, no one in Chennai right now is trilegal partner stature (apart from the ones at JSA, SAM, KCO, AZB already), and with Bhaskar sir having taken on less and less work as of late and essentially being semi retired, I doubt he leaves his firm of 20 years for Trilegal.

Exactly. SAM is probably the worst place to intern. They take like a 100 interns through contact all for 2 weeks with zero stipend. There are 2-3 interns at a time per team + the HR does not understand the difference between Labour & Employment, real estate, M&A etc. The HR considers all of them under Gen Corp.
