To be honest, I just want the LLM badge - not keen on pouring in too much effort. BA LLB and the law firm grind have already taken their toll. Ideally looking for an institute thatβs reasonably priced (βsastaβ) and doesnβt demand heavy time or academic commitment.
Open to suggestions - nothing too fancy, just not terrible either.
Already, there are instances wherein the demand for BBA-LLB is higher than BA-LLB, reflected in higher cut-offs, and there are a few universities that don't offer BA-LLB at all. The transition is happening. That said, state NLUs are still geared towards humanities students and hence BA-LLB, barring a few half-hearted attempts. Think of it - in all its wisdom, the administration in NLS actually thought that offering a 3-year BA degree is future-oriented!!!!
How will studying Marx, Romila Thapar, Ambedkar etc equip law students? Isn't it better to train them to be more technocratic?
I am a law student at a top Uni and had bagged a PPO after an assessment with a top tier 1 law firm (Banking Team). However, I was to intern with the firm till I graduate, May 2026.
However, they have stopped responding and I have received no response and I am devastated about these affairs as I have looming loans and family obligations to clear with the salary I expected. 1. Where other countries do not even allow somebody to get a foot in the door of academia without a completed PhD or proof that one is being pursued, India still manages to have a system whereby those without a PhD can get into the sector (if only in very junior positions, to be fair).

We find ourselves, here, confronted with the type of behaviour that an unnamed British government insider, in a different context, described to the London Times columnist Tim Shipman as entitled "knobheadery". Where a TA position in other countries is given almost exclusively to PhD students in their penultimate or final years of a PhD, we have a person here who isn't even willing to take our country's weird exam for non-PhD holders to get in and wants such a position "handed to them", as Sir P.G. Wodehouse might say, "on a silver plate with waterchress around it".
PS: Legally India, you want feedback on how to improve your service? Here's an idea. Look up the blog of Brian Leiter, the well-known legal theorist belonging to the realist school of thought, based at the University of Chicago. On his blog (leiterreports.typepad.com), he has a sub-category of posts called "Merciless rhetorical spankings of fanatics, villains and ignoramuses". Create a sub-category of posts like that, where posts like this one and responses like the one I have included above are featured. If you want to continue to be inspired by Leiter but adapt the title for the context of this website, you can call it "Merciless rhetorical spankings of fools, fanatics, trolls, villains, entitled brats and those with unrealistic expectations".
1. Clear NET immediately. You can do it in 4-5 months prep. December NET is coming up. You can easily get NET. You can focus on JRF later since the age is till 33, and it requires more preparing time. So first and foremost clear NET asap
2. Once you've cleared NET immediately apply for PhDs. In central universities without net, you won't stand a chance in interviews. For NLUs, you may have a slight advantage, however some NLUs do take their own entrance exam. Apply for it.
3. Focus solely on your research proposal. Contact faculty if you can and once you establish good communication. You can send them your RP for suggestions. Once you sit in the interview, they will definitely help if they are familiar with you.
4. Once you get into a PhD program. Once your initial coursework is done, that's where you need to attend university, once done you immediately start applying for Assistant Professorship in various universities.
5. NET+PhD pursuing will help you get more offers than without net
