Just joined in-house after college ended in May. The best description is purgatory :(((

Bunch of people waiting for their salaries with no motivation or tangible goals, who's first words of advice to you are how to cheat the system. And the lawyers here also seem disconnected with the legal field.

Anyways I love the working hours (nil!) and my work life balance is fully in favour of life.

Pay is as good or even better as lower tier 1 or tier 2.

All in all in-house is purgatory, and hell is grinding it through the corporate law firm struggle to reach heaven ($$$). If you're not cut out for hell, purgatory can be your best bet!

Not proud to say but have had to do two all nighters back to back on more than one occasion. Always better to get at least 2 hours of sleep in between. Second day, eat carbs in multiple pockets along with espresso shots. Void sugar and keep hydrating. Frequent urinating keeps you busy and less prone to feeling sleepy. Towards the late end of day 2, try to work on a standing desk. Drinking cold water throughout also buys you a couple hours.

But all in all, not worth it. Day three is anxiety ridden and vulnerable. Get proper rest post and eat good warm food (I.e., avoid refrigerated food / cold pizzas). Warm showers. Recovery is equally important. Best to avoid alcohol on day 3, post the two all nighters.

There are no tips. Brain fog is inevitable after all nighters. Your body is isn't designed to function without sleep.

I find it more productive to just give up and sleep, and maybe wake up a little early to get work done. That way my mind fresh at 7am can do the work in say 2 hours, as opposed taking 8 hours from 1am to 9am with the all nighter.

1) Go for power naps, if the environment allows.

2) Be on your feet - walking helps keep the sleep at bay.

3) Caffeine, caffeine, caffeine (along with high protein/carb food in limited quantity).

4) Try to set realistic targets for the day post all-nighter, and attempt to retire early. No job or SHA is worth having a brain stroke.

Take a deep breath and relax, we've all been there. Kudos to you for trying to deal with the situation than poke fingers.

when i was a student a certain creepy professor would add you on facebook and then talk to you using the chat function. We knew it was creepy and after he did it to one student, the rest of us wizened up and stopped responding to his friend request. just do that. Young professors might not always mean harm- they might just be too young to know better, but that doesnt mean that healthy professional boundaries dont benefit teacher and student.

It’s very good if a prof is a LinkedIN or X influencer who share interesting news and advice relevant to our careers. But what about Insta?

Shouldn’t a professor maintain a certain image of seriousness, instead of uploading GRWM, unboxing, dancing etc reels? Also maintain a distance from students and not interact with them on Insta? Are y’all comfortable seeing profs commenting on your posts and sending you friend requests to increase their follower count?

The worst part about litigation is that opposing counsel are always baying for your blood and looking at your work with a magnifying glass. They are actively delaying matters which you want to get done.

In transactions, the opposing counsel still wants to get the deal done and slight mistakes (like wrong execution pages) are generally brushed under the carpet.

I have known three law students who went to JGLS:

1. One of them, a pretty smart guy, described it (Jindal Uni) and the education it claims to offer its law students as a "weapons-grade ▮▮▮" after being there for a year and transferred to the LLB programme at a pretty good British university.

2. The other two: ▮▮▮ By the time I had returned to India temporarily for a flying visit before going back overseas to do other things, the entire family had lost interest in the LLM idea (as even the parents couldn't remain motivated when the kid had no interest).

You want to study in a law school with 700+ people with a fees structure of 50 lakhs over the 5 years and placements and job offers to such a few people out of 7-800 students over an NLU, which is known across the industry even though with an average academic focus and a college where so many students get placement and offers and where the fees is around 12-14 lakhs? Yes, go to Jindal obviously!!

I was in this exact position two years ago choosing between these two law schools. I have since come to Jindal. I think the acadmic exposure is difficult to rival. Of course not all your professors will be stand-outs but theres the fair share of great faculty. If you can afford Jindal, its probably the best place to be; if the finances are a stretch, look into the entrance exam based scholarship (I dont know if the criterias have changed since the shift from the LSAT), but the entrance scholarships are quite generous (upto 75%) and most students here do recieve atleast some financial aid. JGLS also offers a merit/means scholarship once you are here, from the second year onward, but this is capped at a certain amount (1.5L I think). Keep in mind though that scholarships cover only tuition and the housing/dining fee will be the same, and that there will obviously be miscellaneous expenses no matter where you choose to go. Opportunity wise I think Jindal is probably the way to go (atleast in terms of access, exposure, and depending on your merit: placements), but I am sure there is nothing stopping you from doing well at NLUO if you put in the work. If the financial position is extremely precarious, don't take the risk, work hard at the NLU and you will be golden regardless. If you can afford to take the risk, I would say the quality of education and the experience at Jindal is worth it. Someone from NLUO will be a much better bet at telling you how life there is. Some might. But if too many did, I'd be surprised. They are in the stoneage, for one thing; for another, they don't have any proper systems to evaluate CVs etc (unlike their foreign counterparts); finally, their so-called "equivalents" to the graduate recruitment teams of a magic circle or AmLaw20 firms are so bloody lazy and incompetent that I would find it hard to imagine them liking doing the brain work required to understand these systems.

Hii, I am a BO27 student from NLU (Not disclosing the exact name but a tier-2) and would be graduating in april 2027. I had preety decent internships till now and have also worked quite decently but the batch rank is becoming a issue for me as I am not even in top 50 of my batch. I am a bit clueless whether the chances of call back or placement would be sharply hampered due to the low GPA which I hold and I think this is the reason I am unable to secure T-1 internships. Please help!!!!

A student had organised a birthday party in Boys’ Hostel. The crowd went uncontrollable due to excessive drinking. Some of them, including the main ▮▮▮ who also organised the party, started hurling xenophobic and misogynistic abuses at a senior faculty from ▮▮▮ who was residing in NUJS at that point of time. ▮▮▮, ▮▮▮. A suspension letter was about to be issued which was later withheld. He was suddenly let go of scott free without any investigation whatsoever. The current SJA did not take up the issue and instead elevated him to higher position of power and has been vigorously defending him ever since.

hi, im in fourth year at hpnlu. so our placement cell is getting a good amount of firms for internships. other than that, a good amount of bo26 is actively partaking great internships in a lot of tier 1s. we also have an internship policy implemented now and students can avail exemption to intern. we still have a long way to go but its getting better with each batch. but additionally, this might just be my opinion because i switched from a private college to hpnlu, but their is very vast difference in the quality of education between hpnlu (most nlus in gen) and some other college can offer, so this is something worth keeping in mind if it matters to you.

Senior Associates at JSA get 24-32 LPA as bill share in high billing teams. Add to it a fixed of 33 LPA and 18 LPA bonus. Making 60-75 LPA as an SA at JSA isn't difficult in the high billing teams like M&A, Capital Markets and B&F. Just that you arent part of such teams. :)

It's totally opposite. ECM especially the execution side or as some banks call it Corporate Finance, is all about looking after the offer document and coordination of the drafting with the law firms, it's the most suitable role for lawyers. The Coverage/Sector teams which do M&A are based on a lot of financial modelling, this isn't regulation based at all. The most regulation based department is ECM whose bible is the ICDR.
