I advise against this. In fact, be frugal. Law Firms today (especially in Bombay) are a large recruiter. It is no longer as much of an alumni networking club, so these markers of (future) success have turned into a farce, so its not doing you any favours. In fact, it will drive you into a trap through lifestyle creep. You can buy your first Rolex in 5-6y, do not rush it. Shifting to mac/iphone (if you don't already have them) can be done in 3-4 months.

If I had been in your place, I would have attended the virtual court hearing related to the practice area I am interested in and listened to the arguments, especially in matters listed for final arguments. I would also pay attention to the issues being argued. That’s it. I would gain valuable and unique ideas from such arguments.

A fresh graduate from the 3-Year batch (JGLS) here. I just wanted to mention one thing that seems to have been missed for some reason. You get great faculty at JGLS and crazy exposure through the faculty. As someone who got into NLS, JGLS and DU, i preferred to stay in JGLS precisely for this reason. One clarification: you get great faculty at numerous law schools - no denying that. But, the key lies in how approachable and helpful the faculty is in Jindal. You come across academic stalwarts just casually strolling in campus, always ready for a conversation. Also, as a beneficiary of the kind mentorship of some professors, I can tell you that they go miles out of their comfort zone to help you figure out everything - not just academically, but also professionally. The interaction I've had with other 3-year kids, especially at DU, is drastically different. I also want to caveat this by mentioning that I may just be lucky, or have only spoken to people who had weird experiences in the other alternatives like NLS, GLC or DU.

Secondly, I also want to highlight the scholarships. If you can get 2 simultaneous scholarships - Jindal becomes pretty affordable. If cost is a big factor, try speaking to the admission counsellors about this - they'll give you an idea about what kind of scholarships you might potentially get based on your score - usually a 50% if you've got good scores. If you want more, you can approach the scholarship committee.

Among many, one weakness stands out though: the jindal tag. There's a clear reputation that JGLS has when it comes to employment (which I think is changing now). But yeah, from personal experience, its more a presumption than a tag. If you're the kind who's got a good work ethic, people usually cast doubts on the presumption and treat you as any other NLU grad.

One bonus point: if you're into critical legal studies or some other form of disruptive/transformative legal thought, JGLS is undoubtedly the place for you.

I'm a b0 25' graduate. Couldn't get into big law firms which I had worked towards for the past 4 years. I see my friends joining t1 firms and I couldn't. I know it's not the end of the world but I feel all my hard work throughout law school has not paid off and I feel like a failure.

However, I have joined a boutique firm, and my partner and the team are very nice, including the work. But I'm able to work somehow. As an intern, I used to give stellar work and was appreciated by the associates and the partners, but here I don't know what is happening, everyone is teaching me things from scratch and I feel like I know nothing and the interns are probably better than I am. I really admire the partner and want to impress him but I feel like he is questioning his decision to hire me. I've lost confidence and don't know what to do.

hi, I am working with a small firm in m&a/vc. drawing a decent 65k now. joined the firm as fresher and been working for almost a year now.

exposure is good here, but if I want to move to a tier-1 ( ambitious, but just asking) or a better firm, how should I go about it?

my suggestion is to write around 500 words each day, after reading 2-3 articles in 1 hour, it does not matter how the quality of writing is, after repeating this exercise for two days, edit the 1000 words on the third day. wait for another day and then look at the blurb again, after that just put in on the blogpost. do this for a dozen times you would be proud of your work.

if you're willing to invest the time, there's this really great video by Siddharth Chauhan on Nalsar's youtube channel where he explains everything about how to go about writing academic papers in law. It's a bit long, and I have personally not been able to completely watch both the videos yet, but I am sure it would help.

I have noticed a recent trend where the firms where our seniors used to intern at, a few years back after their 5th sem, have suddenly changed for my batch ('28). Even good t2 firms now want mostly interns in their 4th years.

Maybe my CV also isn't enough but can people here please suggest good firms to intern at after 5th sem? And what exactly is it that they look for? My preferred location is Delhi.

For your situation, impossible, I think. The "kar le PhD" comment, though probably intended as a joke by the one who wrote it, is actually not that bad advice. Let's be clear though, I don't think a PhD is gonna help you get into Trilegal. In your circs, go for academia and have done with it!

In terms of absolute numbers, not a huge difference in placements. That aside, the infra, faculty and student opportunities (exchange programmes, RA assignments, conferences etc) at Jindal are far superior to these tier 2 NLUs.

The answer is very simple, expectations. Once you get into a NLU (Most of the times it's a First Gen Guy), you expect the placements, the jobs, the environment that you dreamed. Corp law is just a tiny part. Law is raw and brutal, the chamber system, and the restrictions on how you approach the courts are primitive and not lucrative.

Unfortunately, all this culminates to a pressure like situation. I'm T2 grad, couldn't secure placements and that seems to be an end.

hi ive just gotten done w my clat im from mumbai with around an 840 rank in clat. i secured my seat at nmims mumbai because its close to where i live and altho ive heard alot of bad reviews its the only options. messed up my slat and didnt get slsp, jindal is too exp same w bitslaw. and my parents dont want me to go to tier 2/3 cities so im skipping out on nlus :) but if i get mnlu m ill take it pls help me

Maybe Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are better and will overtake Bengaluru if things continue like this? At least anti-Hindi sentiment shouldn’t be there in these cities, given the large number of Urdu speakers in Hyderabad and the fact that Gujaratis are comfortable in Hindi?
