Tell them that you need to be w your parents and explain that a mid tier law firm will actually help you gin more exposure and opportunities unlike the straightjacket work in t1s, you need to wrap your way around and convince. Tell them you need to build a base in the city you want to spend your life in.

Hey, it depends on which cluster and partner you are under, pe/vc teams across offices are hiring positively till august through ppos, they have rolled out total of 4 ppos till now in these teams and more would be hired, but there are people with callbacks scheduled. ill suggest take an extension, make the extension your assessment and pray that your mentor pushes for you to get hired, thats the only way it happens or if the partner loves u as an intern. Try and present, since presentation gives u a better chance of getting hired

Relatively less opportunities in GLC for three year course students. All tier firms mostly prefer only five year course. Although they do come for the three year course but that is just for formality. You could land a good in house role though, alternatively you can get a good head start to litigation as well. Other than that I think you will be able to get a PPO from tier 2/3 firms if you work hard enough and have contacts.

You're gonna face the same problems in Funds as well as Banking. In disputes, the hours are likely to be equally bad plus much more uncertainty however youay find work more intellectually stimulating plus going to courts regularly and meeting all sorts of people as well as getting to argue are a nice break from a mundane desk job.

Hello! I wanted to inquire about the funding policy for moots in NALSAR and NUJS (or NLUs in general if you're not sure about these two), specifically for out-station and international competitions.

How do students attend these international competitions? As in, who deals with the travel expenses incurred? Does the university pay or the students have to pay for themselves else they can't go?

See, if you're taking a huge loan to study law, then you will have to maintain your focus and ensure that you take advantage of every facility that the institute has to offer, including faculty, alumni, seniors and networking. You do that and you'll land a good job at the end of the five years and then the loan shouldn't be a big deal and can be paid off in 2-3 years. However, this would mean that your career after law school for at least that long a period will be pre-decided and you can't realistically consider higher studies, litigation, policy body work etc. right after law school. Talk to the students and the alumni faculty over social media if you need the inside picture. I don't think that you will regret your decision if you take an informed one.

The placement situation of the BSc batches is no longer unclear. The students have decided to have a combined placement committee including both BA and BSc batches. With regard to merit, it is true that most students from the BSc batches have a much lower CLAT rank compared to the BA students, but for someone who is considering to get in through the NRI route, the rank should not be an issue anyway. If anything, because of the science subjects, the BSc students stand a better chance of scoring higher if they put some effort into it. The teachers are the same and the students are soon going to be brought back to the main campus to have all its facilities from this year onward. They have much better hostel rooms than the BA students even at present.

We’ve looked into a bank that doesn’t need a collateral, has a reasonable rate of interest, and I can start paying back AFTER my 5 course is done.

The reason why i’m going for NUJS is not just because of the placements. The networks, exposure, crowd again differs a lot from a Tier 2. and overall a better college life. And besides, we’d not be taking a loan for the entire amount, only part of it. What do you think of this?

See, NUJS is very much worth the money, but ONLY IF IT DOES NOT STRAIN YOUR FINANCES. A burden this big is not worth the headache you and your parents will have. If you can manage to get a T2, which I think you will, considering you’re confident to get NUJS with NRI Sponsored, take that and work your ass off. It would be easier and more comfortable for you and your parents, and you can focus well on your college. T2 is not the end of the world. You can get the same placements as those in T1s. :)

I wish i’d worked just a little bit harder for CLAT 2025. I can easily get a decent NLU but i really need to get into NUJS.

We come from a Middle Class Background, but this NLU can change our lives. I was contemplating taking a loan. I know that you’re not guaranteed placements just because you’re from a Tier 1. But if I do well and manage to bag one, I feel like this would totally work out.

Insincere, opportunistic grandstanding. Total nonsense. Deeply anti-intellectual. Has JNU been given official national security advice by the Indian government? This is totally against the spirit of global collaborations between universities. What harm was that university doing to anything in India? Universities should not be taken as representing the views of the countries they are located in.

Somehow, university managers the world over never can get this right, can they? In India, they engage in grandstanding like this, while, in the UK, despite receiving official advice from British counterintelligence (MI5), they still collaborate with Chinese universities (including the so-called 'Seven Sons of National Defence'). How hard is this balancing act? If a university's actions are damaging your country and its interests, drop them like hot potatoes. Otherwise, buck trends and fads.

I don't usually post on legally India, but with the end of one of the most promising semesters at NLIU, it's time to reflect on where we stand. Over the last semester, the college has hosted more than 30 events combined with every cell/centre catering to more than 200 law colleges and universities. The college has participated in nearly all the major international moots and won/qualified for the world rounds and semis, even winning them with superb achievements. If one is keen to know about the domestic moot success, then one should be just keen to ask, as it is roaring at this point. All the major centres and cells worked day and night to make events happen and if one wants to know about placements, then batch 2025 is amongst the steady top 3 batches in the country which accomplished supremely well in placements. Folks got jobs at nearly all the major Tier-1s where some good nlus struggled.

This post wasn't some gimmick, rather it is to decry a campaign against some keyboard warriors who claim that NLIU isn't as good as it was. Just because a promotion doesn't happen, doesn't mean there’s a storm. The students prefer to keep it alongside NLUJ/GNLU and sometimes happily choose this institution over any college. That's the ground reality. We are doing quite and even better in some areas than the other Tier-1s, it's not a comparison but to showcase that in Tier-1, there's not a whole lot of difference in quality, yet NLIU is standing apart and restoring its legacy.

c) They cannot advise on aspects of Indian law, only foreign law

I think that the India desks of foreign law firms can advise on Indian law. (Not so sure, can someone clarify)

If HN clients are willing to pay more for foreign law firms advice, then it's a win-win as they don't have to spent money on opening physical offices.

R3 is a flop because Yamaha never updated the bike, internationally.

True. I think the high handedness of this entire issue is compounded by the fact that there is no open communication and commitment on timelines. There is a deep seated disrespect towards members of the firm that is reflected by such an attitude.

Most teams I know haven’t even started the process of performance review with their associates. We have no clue when that will happen. Only after that will we get bonuses, then promotion and then increments. Almost on a regular basis by the time we get our increments in September and sometimes even later. That’s half the year FY gone, without any visibility how much money you will make. I understand part of the reason for staggering payouts as such is retention. But to do it to this extent- Is that really fair?

Its really sad to see how high and mighty threaten an appropriate and legitimate request. If this is the environment in Saraf, where a genuine voice is suppressed and trampled upon, then Saraf has no right to call itself as a "professionally managed firm". It seems more like oligarchy. So many expectations and promises. Especially the David and Goliath story inspirations. Now it seems David has become Goliath. Oh, how the high and mighty change.

I’m an A2 at a Tier-2 firm. Absolutely love the team and partner, and vice versa. Only issue is that the scope of work is limited (only straightforward deals) and I don’t think I’m getting much exposure.

Do I let go of the comfort and stability for growth? I had always planned on shifting to a T1 firm but didn’t because of the stability. But it seems like it’s too early in my career to settle down and not focus on learning as much as I can.

I recently interviewed with the corp team and did my due diligence after interviewing. Big mistake! Now I am hearing wild things about their insane attrition rate AFTER the interview! Is the work culture really that bad, or is this just typical boutique law stuff? Genuine question. Trying to figure out if it’s worth taking an offer if I get one?

You could apply for internship at local law firms or arbitration centres. Even if they don't accept because of short notice, it's still worth a shot, there's no harm in sending mails asking for internships, you're jobless anyways right now.

Apart from internships, you could try doing online ADR competitions, even if they're smaller scale ones, they'll still give you exposure.

I would advise you to focus on IP litigation. IP Prosecution is basically clerical work and baby drafting for registry hearings.

IP litigation is where the real money and scope is. IP boutiques are making a bank on the litigation side. Plus, you get disputes and civil litigation exposure, so it’s easier for switch practices later on in the future

Tax practice in general, is booming, be it direct ot indirect taxes. Things like amnesty schemes are do not substantially bring down cases, they are far from being a death knell! Folks who say that the tax regime is standard and with exemptions, deductions or data point difference cases, fail in understanding that many of these cases arise out of Revenue's aggressive demands in case after case, which is not going to settle anytime soon. For indirect tax matters, issues settled under PRE-GST laws are being opened up, coupled with other issues. Further, even if GSTAT Tribunals aren't being settled, it is not that these cases aren't getting filed at all - they go before HCs as WPs because of no alternate remedy. In short, tax litigation is far from a dead practice, many tax litigation chambers in Bangalore are looking to hire because of the sheer scale of litigation.
